Rishabh Pant Breaks Rohit Sharma's Record Of Most Sixes For India In WTC

Rishabh Pant is playing for India in the first Test against England, which is currently underway at Headingley in Leeds. During the first day’s play of the series opener, Pant came out to bat at No. 5 for the Shubman Gill-led side and remained unbeaten on 65 runs from 102 balls. During his stay at the crease on Friday (June 20), the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter hammered six fours and two sixes.
Pant’s first maximum of the first innings helped him break Rohit Sharma’s record of 56 maximums for India in the World Test Championship. Rohit, who retired from Test cricket on May 7, played 40 WTC matches for India and hammered 56 sixes, whereas Pant now has 58 sixes to his name in 35 matches.
Only England Test captain Ben Stokes has smacked more sixes than Pant in the WTC. Stokes, who is leading the English team in the ongoing Test against India at Headingley, has 83 sixes to his name in 54 WTC matches.

In the list of batters with the most sixes in the WTC, Stokes, Pant, and Rohit are followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand. Jaiswal, who scored 101 runs from 159 balls for India on Friday, has smashed 40 sixes so far in 20 WTC matches, whereas Mitchell has 34 sixes to his name in 27 matches.
Pant overall has scored 75 sixes in 44 Tests for India, and in the list of batters with the most sixes in Test cricket for India, he is only behind Virender Sehwag (90), Rohit (88), and MS Dhoni (78).

Pant, who also completed 3000 runs in Test cricket on Friday, would like to convert his good start into a big score on Saturday (June 21), and if he manages to score a century, then he will break MS Dhoni’s record of most centuries by a wicketkeeper-batter in the five-day format of the game for India. During his 90-match-long Test career, Dhoni scored six centuries, whereas Pant has six centuries to his name in 44 matches played so far.
