Rishabh Pant created history on Saturday (June 21) by becoming the first wicketkeeper-batter in the world to score three Test centuries in England. Pant, who is playing his 10th Test for India in England these days, completed his third Test century on English soil by hitting spinner Shoaib Bashir for a six on the second ball of the 100th over of India’s first innings in the ongoing match at Headingley in Leeds. He crossed the 100-run mark on the 146th ball of his innings and has hammered 10 fours and four sixes so far. Pant, who made his Test debut for India against England in Nottingham on August 18, 2018, scored his first Test century against England at The Oval (114 in September, 2018), and his second Test century on English soil came at Edgbaston (146 in July, 2022). Pant came out to bat at No. 5 for India in the first innings and added 209 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Shubman Gill (147). He hammered 65 runs from 102 balls on Day 1 of the Test match and completed the remaining 35 runs in the morning session of the second day’s play. Pant’s centuries in Tests 114 vs England at The Oval (2018) 159* vs Australia in Sydney (2019) 101 vs England in Ahmedabad (2021) 100* vs South Africa in Cape Town (2022) 146 vs England in Birmingham (2022) 109 vs Bangladesh in Chennai (2024) 105* vs England in Leeds (2025) The century in the first Test against England also helped Pant break MS Dhoni’s record of most 100s in Test cricket by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. During his nine-year-long Test career for India from 2005 to 2014, Dhoni played 90 Tests and scored six centuries. On the other hand, Pant, who is playing his 44th Test these days, has seven centuries to his name. Pant, who is India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket, is dealing in sixes in the first innings, and after breaking Rohit Sharma’s record of most sixes for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) on Friday, he went past Dhoni’s tally of 78 sixes on Saturday to become India’s third leading six hitter in the five-day format of the game.
