Sir Rod Stewart has shared an update on his health a year after covid caused chaos with his tour schedule. Amazingly, Rod revealed his ambition to set a new world record in sprinting at 80 years old. The rock legend faced a health scare when he contracted covid last year, throwing his performance schedule into disarray. He had gigs lined up in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and California over in the States . However, he raised concerns among his followers after quipping in an interview with The Sun that his "days were numbered" . He later reassured fans, clarifying that his remarks were made in jest. Now, the Maggie May chanter has taken up running 100m on a private track at his expansive estate, and is working to improve his speed. The father-of-eight maintains that he's "very fit" and credits underwater swimming for aiding both his physical well-being and vocal prowess. Sir Rod even has set his sights on a sprinting milestone. In a conversation with AARP - The Magazine, he disclosed: "I got it down to 19 seconds by learning how to push off. "I'm going to try and do 17 seconds, which I think is a world record for an 80-year-old." He added: "I keep myself very fit. I played soccer all my life - don't so much anymore, because I had a knee replacement. And I've always had a trainer - same guy for 38 years," reports the Express . "I have an indoor pool, massive gym , golf course, everything. We do a lot of underwater training, where the trainer throws a brick into the pool and I have to dive in, push the brick to the end of the pool, and come up. " Frank Sinatra once said to me, 'Rod, the secret to being a great singer is having powerful lungs. Do lots of underwater swimming, where you hold your breath.'". Now fighting fit, the artist is gearing up to grace the stage at Glastonbury Festival for the coveted Legends slot next month. Celebrating his 80th birthday in January, Rod Stewart was treated to a yacht party organised by his wife Penny Lancaster , who arranged a surprise dress-up theme for all the guests. Reflecting on his extravagant birthday bash, he shared: "We hired a massive yacht. Cost me an absolute fortune. "I don't mind - you're only 80 once. "I've got eight kids and five grandchildren, plus various boyfriends and husbands, so there were 15 of us plus three chefs. The boat was so big that I didn't even see some of it. We dressed up every night, with a different theme." It comes after Rod was pictured revelling in the stands at Parkhead on trophy day for his beloved Celtic FC. The legend was joined by his son Alastair as they watched St. Mirren take on the Hoops on Saturday (May 17).
