@Source: newsweek.com
Tiger Woods' ruptured Achilles tendon has shocked the golf world, which had hoped to see him back in action at least for the upcoming Masters Tournament. Rory McIlroy is among the countless voices that have risen to send him their best wishes at this difficult moment.A day after the news broke, the Northern Irishman held a press conference at TPC Sawgrass, where he will play The Players Championship starting Thursday. McIlroy expressed his sorrow and predicted that the 15-time major champion will be unable to play for the rest of the season."It sucks," McIlroy said. "Yeah, he doesn't have much luck when it comes to injuries and his body. Obviously he was trying to ramp up to get ready for Augusta, and Achilles surgeries obviously aren't fun.""Hoping he's in good spirits and hoping he's doing okay. We obviously won't see him play golf this year, and hopefully we see him maybe play in 2026."However, McIlroy has not forgotten his colleague's history of returning to professional golf. Based on that past, the 4-time major champion is sure that Woods will do anything to get back on the course."He'll try, I know he'll try," he said. "But that's a question for him, not for me. I obviously don't know what's in his head. But judging by prior behavior, he'll definitely try."Woods announced that he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in his left foot and had to undergo surgery. The procedure was performed via minimal access and the result was satisfactory.According to the message posted on Woods' social media profiles, the injury occurred while he was practicing at home in preparation for his season opener, which was expected to take place at the Masters Tournament.Woods was scheduled to make his 2025 debut at the Genesis Invitational in mid-February, but his mother's passing away earlier this month prompted him to withdraw from the event.The 48-year-old has a long history of injuries that have forced him to undergo surgery on several occasions. As recently as last September, he underwent surgery to fix back problems.Tiger Woods has not played an official tournament since The Open Championship last summer. Since then, he has only tee off at the PNC Championship in December and at the TGL matches he has played with his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club.More Golf: LPGA Tournament Sponsors Donating $6.5 Million for LA Wildfire Relief
