Rory McIlroy Reveals Anne Hathaway Film Calmed His 'Nerves' Before PLAYERS Win

Who doesn't love a good movie night after a long, tiring day? Interestingly, for Rory McIlroy, the $4.5M winner, an Anne Hathaway film was just what he needed to calm his 'nerves' before teeing off in a three-hole playoff against JJ Spaun. The 28-time PGA Tour winner finished at 12-under par on Sunday before the rain forced the PGA Tour officials to postpone the 'fifth major' to Monday. McIlroy revealed that he was not thrilled that he did not close out the tournament on Sunday."I was disappointed that I needed to come back this morning, but I didn't – I couldn't let that mind frame linger for too long, and I had to reset and try to get a good night's sleep and come out this morning committed to get the job done."To shake off the disappointment before deep sleep, McIlroy revealed: "Once I got back to the hotel, I just tried to sort of forget about it and had some room service, watched a little bit of Devil Wears Prada, and went to bed."An iconic 2006 fashion movie that makes you laugh, motivates you and provokes you to push through. As he reflected on his mindset, McIlroy admitted, "I would say I was a little disappointed last night, but I also was mindful that I couldn't feel that way, that I needed to reset."But as we know, the mental reset ultimately paid off at TPC Sawgrass. McIlroy woke up at 3:00 a.m., 'nervous' but focused. His determination led to McIlroy's second career win at the event, silencing doubters. This season, the 4-time major winner has participated in five events, recording two victories, another top-5 finish at the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and two top-20 finishes.Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus had previously suggested that McIlroy's self-inflicting nature was holding him back from winning majors."I still firmly believe that Rory will win the Masters; he's just too good not to. You just gotta get him out of himself. You know that's the problem," the Golden Bear shared on 5 Clubs podcast last year. However, McIlroy's recent win may be proving Nicklaus wrong.During the post-round interview, the Northern Irishman revealed: "I think just double down on what I'm doing. Double down on the work that I've been doing at home," he said when asked about his mindset going forward."Double down on the conversations I've been having with Bob Rotella, all that sort of stuff. It's just continuing to do the same things," the fan favorite added. Will McIlroy finally end his majors drought? What do you think?
