Rory McIlroy has bid farewell to his signature curls, unveiling a striking new hairstyle ahead of the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush . The career Grand Slam champion's renowned curls are nearly as legendary as the man himself, but he's opted for a fresh look in anticipation of the British and Irish summer. McIlroy made an appearance at the Renaissance Club in Scotland this week, officially commencing his preparations for next week's Open Championship and showcasing his dramatic trim. Famed for his curly, wavy locks, McIlroy has chosen to shear the top and adopt a more levelled look. McIlroy is set to compete in this year's Scottish Open, a tournament where he's previously found considerable success. The Holywood golfer broke local hearts when he delivered one of his most clutch finishes to defeat hometown hero Bob MacIntyre back in 2023. A year on, McIlroy was once again near the top of the leaderboard going into the final round and secured a respectable fourth place, while MacIntyre managed to overcome the previous year's disappointment to win his home Open. In the second preview day at the Genesis Scottish Open McIlroy made one young fan's day by letting him join the world no.2 on his round. McIlroy was impressed with Andrew's choice of putter and the Scottish youngster showed he could use it too as he sank a putt at the second attempt, and he got the ball signed by the Northern Irish golfer as a special keepsake from the day. Next week, McIlroy will return home for the Open, with Royal Portrush hosting the season's final major. The five-time major champion missed the cut when the event was last held there in 2019 following a disastrous opening round, but he's determined to make amends this time around. Since clinching the Masters and the Career Grand Slam, McIlroy has candidly confessed to a lack of motivation, but seems to have turned things around with a tied sixth finish at the Travelers Championship last month. With a home Open Championship, an away Ryder Cup, and the season-ending FedEx Cup on the horizon, McIlroy is sure to be fired up in the coming months. McIlroy will tee off his first two rounds at the Scottish Open alongside Ryder Cup teammate Viktor Hovland and reigning Open Champion Xander Schauffele. Padraig Harrington is also participating and will play alongside Corey Conners and Calum Hill.
