Rory McIlroy Wild Walk-Off Eagle Puts Zurich Classic Defense in Sight
@Source: newsweek.com
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry each made incredible eagles during Moving Day at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.In fact, McIlroy made a 30-foot walk-off eagle on the 18th to get to 22-under for the tournament. That putt gave them a chance to repeat and defend their Zurich Classic title.The duo signed for an 11-under 61 and currently sit four shots behind the leaders, Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin."I was pretty happy to have Rory go out and eagle the last there," Lowry said. "It makes dinner taste nicer and puts us in a great position going into tomorrow."McIlroy's eagle on 18 came at a perfect time after they bogeyed the par-3 17th. It was even more impressive because the Northern Irishman sank it after a 90-minute weather delay.Even with the wait time, the 5-time major winner did not stress about it. McIlroy knew what to do and had the ice in his veins to get it done."The secret is not thinking about it in those 90 minutes. We had a bit of lunch, and we were watching some highlights from last year and talking about where we're going to go for dinner tonight," McIlroy said. "The last thing on my mind during the delay was the putt, and then once I got back out there, I concentrated on it and made sure I did what I needed to do, and just a bonus for it to go in."McIlroy was not the only one on his team to make a momentum-swinging eagle on Saturday.Lowry chipped in for an eagle on the par-5 7th. That eagle put them at 5-under on the day.The 2019 Open champion carried the team for the first half of the round. McIlroy made two birdies on the front, and Lowry made two birdies and an eagle to make the turn in 30 strokes.They made four birdies on the back nine leading up the eagle on 18.The Irish duo looks to become the first team to repeat at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. They will have to go low again on Sunday if they want to contend, though.Novak and Griffin look nearly unstoppable. The twins Nicolai and Rasmus Høgjaard signed for a 59 on Thursday to set the tone for the tournament and still sit towards the top of the leaderboard after three rounds of play.Will McIlroy and Lowry find a way to repeat? They have a little deficit to overcome, but their experience may help them get the job done again.More Golf: TGL Rumors: Tiger Woods' Virtual Golf League to Launch Women's League
