Ruben Amorim sent summer transfer window warning as Manchester United plan revealed

Manchester Evening News readers have been actively voicing their opinions regarding the team's direction after Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim shared his ambition to sign "one or two big players" to strengthen his squad at the end of the current season . It comes amid what has been a disappointing season for United, with their poor form having left them sitting 13th in the Premier League standings. United boss Amorim knows he faces an important summer as he aims to rebuild his squad with sufficient depth and quality to successfully play his favoured 3-4-3 formation - but says he won't be afforded the luxury of time Sir Alex Ferguson once had to reshape the club. "I just want to focus on our strengths and then try to use our club and bring one or two big players," Amorim said ahead of Sunday's 0-0 draw with rivals Manchester City . "Sometimes big players for me is different from you. "We are doing all the stuff for next season to be so much better. If we are going to win something, if it is going to take two years, like in the memo, I don’t know. I will not manage this thing of, 'in four years I will try something'. "For me, from next season we need to be so much better because this is a massive club and I like to put that pressure on me and everyone here." And fans have now had their say on the United manager's summer transfer plans - with many saying the club need more than just two players coming in. One of our readers MadMonk asks: "Depends on how he’s defining big players. If it just means expensive (£40m+) then that would be no surprise given the club’s financial restrictions. Doesn’t mean they won’t be looking for players for less than that who could also make an immediate impact. Centre forward, central midfield and right wingback are the obvious areas to strengthen, but there’s plenty of other business that could be done. Top 6 (or thereabouts) has to be the aim for next season, maybe top 4 the year after, then something like a title challenge. But that all needs a lot of good decision making and things going right." While Gigzzzy also believes: "Utd need four or five good signings, but Radcliffe has already said that because of Utds financial situation the strategy will be to invest in young up & coming talent who as everyone knows take time to integrate into a team and league. So I can't see Utd being one of the title contenders for either the Premier league title or one of the favourites to win the Champions league for a long while. Especially while The Glazers & Ineos are in charge!" FrankM16 states: "We all know what we need. As did Fergie. He invested in McClair who nobody knew, a player who scored a lot of goals in Scotland. It worked, he became the first player to score 20 league goals since Best. It is exactly what we need , nothing flash just somebody who can put it on the back of the net. With goals the victories will come. Forget systems and style of play just start get the results first." Tt84 adds: "I think we are looking at the UEFA Cup next season, is it 4th-7th in the league? We're not ready for Champions League and unless he can transform this team with 2-3 signings and a close season. I don't see it happening." Tankjr feels: "That's pretty interesting because I would say to have any chance of successful using his system against 50-75% of the league we need at least 8 players, and even if the January South American left wingback fits one of those 8, and Chido, Kone, Amass makeup another 3, that still leaves two places short, which means of the 4 expensive players out on loan we are either going to need to re-integrate two of Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Malacia, or be less stuck on a 3-4-2-1 system. Martinez, Amad and Shaw all recovering might seem like we are covered, but we will also be letting players out of contract leave and cover until January wouldn't be enough in my opinion if had 3 or 4 new or recurring injuries between pre-season and January."
