Rugby: Douglas victorious at home against Winnington Park
@Source: manxradio.com
Report by Dave Christian: Douglas’ charge for sixth place in Regional 2 North West continued with a 38-14 bonus point win against Winnington Park at Port-e-Chee. Douglas ran in six tries in total and led 21-7 at half time. Topping the scoresheet was centre James Ross with two and there were also tries from Harry Hewson, Josh Duncan, Cal Dentith and skipper Blake Snell - Nathan Robson added four conversions. Douglas’ rivals for sixth are Altrincham Kersal and a 40-19 defeat for them at Sandbach means Douglas do move into sixth by virtue of a superior points difference and both sides have just one match remaining. Vagabonds' toil continues 'Vagas' lost 69-8 away at Dukinfield in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire as their arduous fixture list nears its end. Even the return of captain Dan Bonwick from a knee injury ironically sustained against Dukinfield, couldn’t turn the tide. Cam Findlay went over for Vagabonds' only try and he kicked a penalty too. Vagas face Colne & Nelson at Ballafletcher next week in their penultimate game. Ramsey underway in Manx Cup Ramsey got their Manx Cup off to a flying start winning 37-10 away at Southern Nomads. It was Nomads however who started the fastest with Mikey Craine running in the game’s opening try in just the second minute. A Tom Moffatt penalty put Ramsey on the board and tries were quickly added through Matt Meechan, Owen Bevan and Leo McVicar plus a Moffatt conversion. Just before half time Craine went in for his second to keep Nomads in touch at 10-20. In the second half Kieran Kneale added Ramsey’s fourth try and was quickly followed in by Meechan and McVicar who both went over for their second scores of the game with Moffatt converting one.
