@Source: abc.net.au
Rugby league returns to Las Vegas for the second straight year, with the NRL season kicking off in the United States once again, with two extra games added to the schedule. Here is everything you need to know ahead of Sunday's (AEDT) action. Who is playing in Las Vegas? While the NRL's first foray into the US market featured just four men's NRL teams across two games, things are slightly diversified this year. The Canberra Raiders and Warriors face off in the first game of the season at Allegiant Stadium, with defending premiers the Penrith Panthers taking on the Cronulla Sharks. Australia's national women's team, the Jillaroos, are also in Vegas for their clash with England. British Super League champions Wigan Warriors have also made the trip across the Atlantic to take on Warrington Wolves. What time is kick-off? With four games to get through, there is a full day of rugby league action in Las Vegas. Here's when each game kicks off at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (all times AEDT): 8:30am: Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves (Super League)11am: Canberra Raiders vs Warriors (NRL)1pm: Australian Jillaroos vs England3:30pm: Penrith Panthers vs Cronulla Sharks (NRL) How can I watch the Las Vegas games? Fox Sports and Kayo will have live broadcasts of all four games, while ABC Sport will be blogging online and calling the games on radio. Free-to-air broadcaster Channel Nine will only carry the Jillaroos game and Panthers vs Cronulla games live. What crowd is expected? The NRL said it is expecting 50,000 people at the ground, with more than 45,000 tickets sold a week before game day. Allegiant Stadium has a capacity of 65,000 people, but 40,746 fans turned up last year. Who played in Vegas in 2024? The two games played in Las Vegas last year were both NRL games — South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Manly Sea Eagles and Brisbane Broncos vs Sydney Roosters. The season-opening clashes will be shared around, with teams putting their names forward to go each year. When do the rest of the NRL teams play? After Sunday's Vegas games start round one, two of last year's travelling teams — the Roosters and Broncos — start their seasons at the Sydney Football Stadium on Thursday at 8pm AEDT. Friday sees Wests Tigers against Newcastle Knights (6pm at Campbelltown), and the Dolphins vs the South Sydney Rabbitohs (8:05pm at Lang Park). On Saturday, the St George Illawarra Dragons face Canterbury Bulldogs at 5:30pm at Jubilee Stadium, before the Manly Sea Eagles vs North Queensland Cowboys from 7:35pm at Brookvale Oval. Round one wraps up on Sunday, March 9 with the Melbourne Storm hosting the Parramatta Eels at AAMI Park from 4:05pm.
