A Rugby World Cup winner will fly into Ireland later this year in an effort to break a Guinness World Record for the longest ever game of rugby. In an ambitious fundraiser for rugby mental health charity LooseHeadz, a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest game of rugby will take place this June. The current record stands at 30 hours 29 minutes and 41 seconds but organisers are hoping to smash the record. The record-breaking attempt takes place between June 18th and 19th, concluding a day before the British and Irish Lions warm up clash against Argentina. Charity organisers are hoping to raise over €120,000 for Looseheadz and Children's Charity Wooden Spoon, which supports disadvantaged and disabled children and young people in the UK and Ireland. The charity uses rugby to fund projects such as sensory rooms, sports areas, and medical care. The fundraiser takes place at Navan Rugby club and is open ti just 92 players, two women teams of 23 players and two men's teams of 23 players. Entry to the event costs £950 (€1,130) but comes with a host of perks as seen below. It’s easy to see the performance and not the person, which can mean that mental health gets overlooked, so it’s important that we heighten the awareness and tackle the stigma within rugby. “LooseHeadz is doing a brilliant job at providing rugby with a platform to tackle mental health issues, and I see this a big opportunity to heighten the awareness of that. I’m also very excited to be involved in a Guiness World Record attempt – fingers crossed I can stay in one piece as I haven’t played since I hung up my boots in 2021!” Full details can be found HERE.
