Joe Root is enjoying a purple patch in Test cricket and he is moving close to Sachin Tendulkar's tally in Test cricket. The Master Blaster finished his Test career with 1591 runs in 200 matches. Root has already scored 13543 runs in 158 Tests. He is 34 and has age on his side. The former England captain can break Sachin's record for most runs in Test cricket in the next few years. Sachin, who interacted with his fans on Reddit, reacted to Root breaching the 13000-run mark in Tests. He shared his first memory of watching Root and said: "To have gone past 13000 runs is a remarkable achievement, and he’s still going strong. When I saw him for the first time in Nagpur in 2012 during his debut Test, I told my teammates that they were watching the future captain of England. What impressed me most was the way he was able to assess the wicket and how he rotated the strike. I knew at that very moment that he would be a big player." Root is 2379 runs away from overtaking Sachin's tally. The former India captain retired in November 2013. He has been Test cricket's highest run-scorer for many years and will continue to stay at the top if Root ends his career before that. Sachin also played 463 ODIs and piled up 18426 runs in the format. In 2010, he became the first batsman to score a triple-century in ODIs.
