Sadistic dog abuser run out of town by neighbours who heard animals screaming inside "house of horrors"

A sadistic animal abuser was run out of town by angry locals after videos circulated of him appearing to take dead dogs from his “house of horrors” . Sick Steven Brown – who also uses the name Seb Rozental after Rangers’ former Chilean striker – was also filmed carrying out violent attacks on tiny dogs at his flat in Ashgill , Lanarkshire. Footage shared by concerned neighbours in the tight-knit Prospect Drive also showed sadistic Brown handling several dogs that appeared to be dead or dying. One disturbing video showed a German shepherd pup being dragged down stairs and into Brown’s car boot, hours after neighbours heard dogs “screaming” in terror and agony . The dog appeared to be dead. Brown was convicted at court of two charges relating to serious cruelty against animals , with his crimes laid bare in a series of shocking videos that were handed over the SSPCA’s Special Investigations Unit. The probe uncovered various makeshift, blood spattered weapons believed to have been used to bludgeon dogs. Furious neighbours who gathered outside Brown’s home in June 2023 - after the SSPCA and police were called in - watched officers emerge with a baseball bat and metal pipes that were covered in dog blood. A dog tooth was also found in the toilet, where canine blood was also found in the bath and on the filthy floor. Neighbours - several of them dog owners and animal lovers - made it clear to him that he was not welcome there, which led to him being driven away in a police car, as neighbours jeered. Brown’s former upstairs neighbour John Greechan said he called the SSPCA after hearing “screaming” from dogs one night in Brown’s flat, where he kept including tiny Chihuahuas, a French bulldog and the German shepherd pup. He said: “I could hear banging in his flat and I could hear the dogs screaming - not barking, they were making a terrible, heart-rending screaming noise, like they were in a state of terror. “To me it sounded like he was hitting them with something because there was banging accompanied by terrible sounds. “When neighbours were watching the SSPCA coming out of the house we could see them carry a pole that clearly had red blood on it. It was bent out of shape too, like it had hit something. “That didn’t look right and it infuriated people. We didn’t want him on the street - it was him who was the animal.” John added: “It was hard to keep count of the dogs because sometimes there would be more than just his four Chihuahuas. From the comings and goings it was reckoned four dogs had died. “One of the wee dogs had three legs and he said that it had fallen down the stairs. Who knows what happened to it? I’ve no idea if it’s still alive.” John added: “What I heard and what they caught him dog on video was just terrible. He should be in jail. “Anyone watching the videos could see dogs that appeared to be lifeless.” John said Brown was already living in the street when he moved in with his family in 2022. He said he was ok at first. He said: “He would have dogs appearing and others disappearing. He had his own four Chihuahuas and seemed to be ok with them when he walked them in the park at the back of his home.” Brown was dragged out of his flat in handcuffs after he was reported to police in June, 2023. A day later Brown returned to his flat and shocked locals by popping out for a Chinese takeaway, acting as though nothing had happened. Police were later called to escort him out of the street and the council was forced to rehome him as it was deemed unsafe for him to return to his home. Local youths smashed Brown’s windows and others calmly made it clear to him that he should leave and never return. Another neighbour, Drew Sellars, 57, said he also reported Brown to the SSPCA after he heard dogs “squealing and screaming”. He said: “I was playing golf the next morning and when I went to put my clubs in the car the night before I heard this blood curdling noise. It sounded like dogs were being battered. “I could then hear some terrible squealing and screaming from dogs. It was terrible, awful. I phoned the SSPCA and they said they were already investigating him. The screams of the dogs will never leave me. ”The videos apparently made it clear that within 24 hours of that Brown had taken the big dog into the car and drove off with it. I couldn’t watch it but everyone said it looked obviously dead.” Postman Drew added: “After he was arrested I spoke to one of the police officers who came out and they said it was like a house of horrors in his flat, with blood spattered all over the place.” Another neighbour added: “His windows got put in by local youngsters and police took him away in handcuffs. “They let him out again after charging him and he was seen going into the house then leaving again. “One of the neighbours politely told him it would be best if he didn’t return and he was then told that he would be forced to leave. “His last words were ‘we’ll see about that’. “He disappeared then came back with a Chinese takeaway, which people thought was callous, just going about his business as normal. “By this time half the people on the street had gathered and police took him away for his own safety. “There were several police cars because I think they were fearful of a riot but it was all quite peaceful. “It was simply a case of there being too many animal lovers and too many decent people who were not going to tolerate him living there.” A video timeline showed Brown creeping about at all hours, with some dogs suddenly disappearing. The most disturbing images featured a young German Shepherd that showed up one day but was cavorting in his garden in good health. But the dog was later carried out and dumped in his car a few of days later - looking clearly dead, with rigor mortis set in, making its legs stick out grotesquely as he carried it. Daily Record vet Neil McIntosh said the dog looked dead. He said: “In my opinion, the dog was not alive, as it made no efforts to move or struggle as it was dragged along. It exhibited extensor rigidity, which would be consistent with death.” Brown admitted two charges of inflicting cruelty on animals when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last November. He pleaded guilty to causing suffering to a Chihuahua - now deceased - between April 4 and April 5. He dragged the tiny dog on its lead and failed to take it to a vet when it was obviously very ill. Brown also admitted causing unnecessary suffering to another Chihuahua by kicking it as it entered his flat. The court accepted a not guilty plea to a charge that Brown mistreated seven dogs - a German shepherd, a French bulldog and five Chihuahuas - subjecting them to fear and distress. That charge stated that four of the dogs had died by means unknown. He was given a community payback order, to be completed in two years, and put on an electronic tag for five months. He was also banned from keeping any animal for five years.
