This refers to the news item “Traffic Police check vehicles for school students’ safety” (Star of Mysore dated June 11). As a concerned citizen and a parent, I must say that I really appreciate the efforts being made by Mysuru City Traffic Police.
It is heartening to see that they are taking proactive measures to protect school children, especially with the growing cases of overloading and reckless driving.
The move to inspect school autos, buses, vans and cars for documentation, permits and safe driving procedures is not only timely but strictly necessary. By training drivers and checking automobiles for safety compliance, the Police are building a much-needed culture of responsibility and accountability.
This decision will give peace of mind to all parents who leave their children’s lives in the hands of these daily commutes. The fact that the department is taking this problem seriously with a focus on uniforms, carrying valid licenses and adhering to passenger capacity only adds to the evidence of this.
Kudos to the Mysuru Traffic Police team for enforcing rules as well as bringing awareness and prevention to it. Let all of us support this movement by reporting offences and spreading safe practices. This is the kind of civic duty and public service which creates a better future for our children.
