Scottie Scheffler was left laughing after his manager appeared to take a dig at Rory McIlroy following his victory at The Open Championship . Scheffler clinched his first Claret Jug in dominant fashion on Sunday. The American, 29, went into the final round at Royal Portrush with a four-shot advantage, which he maintained as he won a fourth major title and completed a third leg of the career Grand Slam. Scheffler was delighted afterwards as behind the scenes footage showed him being handed the trophy and enjoying heart-warming moments with his family. He then made his way to the clubhouse alongside his team, which appeared to include his agent and manager, Blake Smith - son of the renowned coach Randy Smith - who has worked with some of golf ’s biggest stars, such as Brooks Koepka. Smith, who works at Hambric Sports, had already seen his clients win the three other majors prior to Sunday. Scheffler’s Open triumph meant the agent, in his own way, has now completed a career Grand Slam, famously achieved by McIlroy in April . As Smith carried the trophy, he was heard saying about it: “That’s a good one, that’s a good one.” The world No. 1 then looked back and asked him: “Does that complete your four?” to which his manager replied: “Yeah, I’m done.” Smith then joked: “I won’t talk to the media for a month now,” drawing laughter from Scheffler. Some fans speculated that he was referencing McIlroy, who evaded reporters after each of his rounds at the PGA Championship following his Masters victory in April. The Northern Irishman’s controversial decision came after news of his non-conforming driver was “leaked” at Quail Hollow, which left him frustrated with two members of the media. Scheffler, meanwhile, once more showcased the typically stellar form we have come to expect of him on Sunday, making three birdies in his first five holes. He added one more birdie to close out a three-under 68 and end the week on 17 under, sealing his second major of the year following his PGA Championship win in May. Speaking after his round, Scheffler said: "Thank you for the fans for all the support. I know I wasn't the fan favorite today, but I appreciate you guys for coming out to support. "It was a ton of fun to play here... I'd like to thank my family. I couldn't do anything without you. I can't wait to get home and celebrate. My parents and the rest of the team, I can't thank you guys enough."
