SCOTTS STARS ON FIRE
@Source: heraldonline.co.zw
Tadious Manyepo Zimpapers Sports Hub SCOTTLAND are finally striking the right chords with the right consistence at the right time. For the first time this season, the expensively-assembled team, have won five league matches on the bounce and the fluency wouldn’t have arrived at an ideal phase of the marathon. Mabviravira sent FC Platinum, for years a potent and intact outfit in their backyard, to the cleaners in a commanding 5-2 win at Mandava on Saturday. The dominant result moved the Mabvuku team to within a point of leaders Simba Bhora with 10 games remaining. That FC Platinum, yet another contender for the Premiership title had never conceded five in a single match since their promotion in 2011 made the result even sweeter for the Mabvuku ensemble. This is a team that is seeking to replicate the Black Rhinos class of ‘84, which remains the only side to have won the league title in their maiden dance in the top-flight. Scottland have invested a lot in bringing in premium playing personnel including Khama Billiat, Walter Musona, Tymon Machope and Mthokozisi Msebe among others. While their performance was erratic for the better part of the opening half, the Tonderai Ndiraya charges are now in cruise mode. And it is the new brooms who look to have brought in the required tenacity in the group. On Saturday, the newcomers who arrived in the mid-season window took matters into their hands with so much conviction and club president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya should be a happy man. Warriors forward Terrence Dzvukamanja, a two-goal hero in Scottland’s 2-1 victory over Highlanders a fortnight ago, was once again in the thick of things on Saturday. He was fouled inside the box for the penalty that was bundled home by Walter Musona for Scottland’s opener before pre-assisting Mafious Chihweta the team’s fourth goal scored by fellow newcomer Moses Shidolo. Chihweta himself, making his debut for the team since joining from Bosso, had a beautiful day which he bookmarked by two assists, for Shidolo and the fifth one planted home by Albert Manenji. Former Warriors captain, Knowledge Musona, who signed for the club last week was also involved, replacing his young brother Walter midway through the second phase. He had a decent outing, playing in the local league for the first time in his career having transferred directly from Aces Youth Soccer Academy to Kaizer Chiefs 17 years ago with the journey also taking him to Germany and Saudi Arabia. In the end Ndiraya, who will make history by becoming the first coach in history to win the league title with two different teams inside two seasons, should Scottland go all the way said: “I should say depth is now coming into play now. “It’s never going to be easy in this competition because there are a lot of teams still involved in the run-in. “I am very happy that my boys arrived at the party and delivered exactly what we had planned during the week. “Beating FC Platinum is never easy, worse by such a huge margin. “I should say I am happy with how everyone played their part in the game. The new guys, yeah, that’s why we brought them. “They are adding value and that should be what it should be like. “I am very impressed with how these new guys carried themselves. The depth we have at the team is now showing the way it has to. “But I tell you, we need to take each game as it comes. There is no need to think beyond the next game. We have to focus and only cross the river when we get there. It’s as simple as that.” Ndiraya is not under any pressure to deliver the championship as his Scottland bosses requested him to finish in the top-four but he knows that bringing the bonus to them will be good for the Mabvuku community and himself as an individual. “I have no pressure, but I play football to win. If we get our act together and there is a chance, why not win it? We are very eager to deliver the trophy home, that’s why we are competing.” FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza admitted Scottland’s firepower was too hot to handle after losing by such a huge scoreline for the first time in his coaching career.
