Hyderabad: SCR general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava and senior officials inspected development work at the Hyderabad station which has been taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He also reviewed passenger amenities and facilities and inspected the booking counter, waiting room, station master’s office and circulating area of the station.Earlier, GM Srivastava conducted a detailed inspection of Charlapalli station, interacted with staff and inquired about the duty hours, working environment and facilities provided.Nearly 6,000 Snakes Rescued in Six Months: FOSHyderabad: The Friends of Snakes Society (FOS), with support from the forest department, said it had rescued and safely relocated 5,954 snakes between January and June. Out of the total rescues, 3,337 were venomous snakes and 2,617 were non-venomous.Most venomous rescues involved the spectacled cobra (2,970), followed by Russell’s viper (344) and common krait (23). Non-venomous species included Indian rat snakes, chequered keelbacks, and bronzeback tree snakes. Some rare snakes like the Indian rock python and red sand boa were also rescued.FOS said it ran over 200 awareness sessions in schools, colleges, villages, and training academies, reaching more than 40,000 people. These sessions focused on how to stay safe during snake encounters, give first aid for snake bites, and break common myths about snakes.Ahead of World Snake Day on July 16, FOS launched a new initiative to reduce snakebite deaths in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by 50 per cent by 2030. It will launch a website offering data on snakes, 24/7 snake identification support, first aid steps for snakebites and a tool to locate nearby hospitals for treatmentThey will also train health workers, teachers, panchayat leaders, and forest staff, especially in rural areas where snakebite deaths are more common.Prof. Venkata Ramana Appointed Director of NITHMHyderabad: Prof. V. Venkata Ramana from the University of Hyderabad has been appointed director of the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) for a three-year term on deputation. The appointment was approved by the UoH Vice Chancellor. The appointment was confirmed by the tourism department.Centre Asks Teachers to Apply to AwardsHyderabad: The ministry of education is accepting online applications for the national awards for teachers. Government and private school heads have been asked to identify deserving candidates and encourage them to apply through the designated portal. The last date for submission has been extended till July 17.Schools have also been instructed to hold awareness meetings at both school and mandal levels to help eligible teachers understand the process and submit complete applications with supporting documents. Managements have been requested to treat this as a priority and assist with technical or procedural aspects wherever needed.Parents Protest Sudden School ClosureHyderabad: Parents gathered outside the Sri Chaitanya School branch in Koti on Monday, demanding answers from the management over its abrupt closure. The building has remained locked for 10 days, leaving families confused and distressed. Several parents said they were asked to shift their children to other branches but received no further clarification.According to officials from the education department, the school was sealed due to the lack of necessary permissions. This came as a shock to parents who had already paid annual fees and purchased textbooks. Many chose the branch for its proximity to their homes and are now unwilling to transfer their children to distant locations without prior notice or assistance.Parents said they felt misled by the management’s silence on the matter and criticised the lack of transparency. Standing outside the locked premises, they expressed concern that their children’s academic year had been disrupted even before it properly began.Postmortem Conducted on Skeletal RemainsHyderabad: A postmortem was conducted on the skeletal remains found inside a locked house in Nampally on Monday, a day after a teenager discovered the body while retrieving his cricket ball. The house had reportedly remained shut for nearly seven years.Police sources told Deccan Chronicle that the autopsy was performed at the house and preliminary findings revealed no visible injuries on the skeleton. “There were no signs of trauma or fractures. It appears to be a natural death, although the conclusion will follow forensic analysis,” a senior official said.A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) collected samples, including teeth and bone fragments, to determine the exact identity of the deceased.
