Battlefield is back with Battlefield 6 giving players another weekend to try out what it has to offer and prep themselves for the large-scale battles ahead. This series has a lengthy history and that history is steeped in classes that have provided our playstyles and loadouts for decades. Battlefield 6 brought classes back, and with them comes the Shack Chat question for this weekend.
Question: What’s your favorite Battlefield class?
Recon - TJ Denzer, Has you in his sights
I love a good shotgun, and I’m pretty good at keeping tanks running while they work in Battlefield, so I almost went Engineer. However, the more I think about it, the more I feel most comfortable behind the scope of a long-range weapon. I feel comfortable taking my time, getting all of the situation under my thumb, and making a crucial play when the time comes.
More than anything, I love the excitement and triumph of a clean headshot on a difficult target. It’s an active math equation happening before my eyes, and one in which the answer may change at any given millisecond. If I miss, that target probably gets someone else. I hit my shot on a high-value target and that’s a chance for my team to make a big play.
Lastly, and I’m sure all other sniper enthusiasts will agree, there is no better feeling than taking aim at a pilot inside of a helicopter, hitting that shot, and watching as the whole thing crashes into the firmament with everyone inside.
Assault - Asif Khan, Road in a helicopter with Bill one time in BF4
I am not the best at these military shooters, but I have a fun time being the Leeroy Jenkins of whatever team I am on. Give me an assault rifle, and I will get you something close to a 1/1 K/D.
Engineer - Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord
A good vehicle can dominate a match in Battlefield. Whether it’s an expert tank operator (me) or a skilled pilot (me) with a competent gunner, a vehicle that can stay alive and bring the pain can decide the outcome. Of course, staying alive most or all of the match requires not just skill, but an Engineer who is willing to hop out and bust out the Repair Tool.
At the same time, a skilled Engineer (me) who is adept at taking out vehicles can suppress enemy armor and provide their team with the breathing room necessary to take objectives. Even pestering a tank with rocket fire can be enough to push them back and out of the fight.
Engineers win matches in Battlefield. Well, good ones anyways.
Support - Dennis White Jr., Loves dragging people online
I love being able to help the squad succeed and stay alive. No, I don’t like being the one to follow idiots into the worst route to an objective possible where they proceed to die every 20 seconds. But when smart members of the team have committed to a strategy and it comes down to holding the line… it really does feel awesome to be the one coming in and saving members of my team at the right moment. When snipers have a good vantage point and I can give them more ammo or when the tank just got blown up by a rocket launcher and bodies are everywhere amidst the chaos, I like being able to help clutch out a recovery in scenarios that take good timing and patience.
Engineer - Donovan Erskine, Wanted to be an engineer as a kid
I love a role that offers utility, and Engineer provides exactly that both offensively and defensively. Engineers can repair tanks, cars, and other vehicles for their teammates, ensuring that they stay in the fight. On the other hand, this class is traditionally equipped with a rocket launcher, which is absolutely vital for dispatching enemy vehicles. Properly lining up a rocket to knock a helicopter or jet out of the sky is a exhilerating feeling.
