Shamed rugby ace Stuart Hogg branded ‘self-obsessed’ and ‘dangerous’ by psychologist after domestic abuse conviction

A DOMESTIC abuse expert has slammed “self-obsessed” Stuart Hogg for shirking responsibility over his conviction shame. Dr Mairead Tagg hit out at the ex-Scotland rugby captain, 32, after a court heard he felt “hard done by” over the case. His self-pity was revealed at a hearing to check progress on a 12-month supervision order imposed in January after he admitted harassing estranged wife Gillian, 38, for five years. Dr Tagg, a Glasgow-based clinical psychologist, said: “His attitude is so typical of serious offenders. He is taking no responsibility for his behaviour so there will be very little likelihood of change. “He is utterly self-obsessed and has no insight into his awful behaviour. He is dangerous. What he put his ex-partner through was shocking.” Earlier this week his lawyer Mat Patrick told Selkirk Sheriff Court a social work report revealed he had “no missed appointments”. The brief said: “It looks like progress requires to be made but it’s against the background of quite a difficult, ongoing divorce and all the emotions that can come with that.” But, reading from the report, Sheriff Peter Paterson said: “He feels hard done by? He’s the one who pleaded guilty. “So he has to face the consequences and move on.” Hogg, who now plays for French side Montpellier, had earlier been excused from having to the hearing. He was recently pictured with new partner Leonna Mayor, 34, and their baby son Teddy. There have been calls for the former British Lions ace to be stripped of his MBE.
