Good evening and welcome to our blog: Linfield boss David Healy believes the fact that Shelbourne won the LOI title ahead of Shamrock Rovers last season proves how good the Reds are.
“I knew how good Shamrock Rovers were, I saw them numerous times last year,” he said.
“They had a squad last year, obviously with the European run and the success that they had in that, so it shows you how good Shelbourne are, and certainly were last year and had to be last year.
“Everybody is talking about Shamrock Rovers, this is one of the greatest sides, best teams that they have ever seen in this country down here, and Shelbourne won the league last year.
“It shows you the level of talent and quality and success that the manager had.
“I know he (Duff) has since left, but Joey looks as if it’s been a seamless transition, he has been in the dressing room, he’s got the nod of approval from above, he’s got the nod of approval, it looks like, by the players who he has worked basically as second in command.
“It looks as if he has stepped up and he is enjoying the role.
“He has got huge experience as a player in England, he has worked with good managers in England, he has represented Ireland at international level, so it’s not as if they have brought somebody in who doesn’t understand Shelbourne or understand the league.
“They have brought somebody in with great experience and they have given him the opportunity to go and manage.”
