Small band of protestors greet Trump at Turnberry as President lands in Scotland
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
A small group of protestors gathered outside Donald Trump's Turnberry golf resort on Friday night as the US President arrived in Scotland. The former US president arrived at the Ayrshire resort in his huge motorcade around 9.30pm on Friday, flanked by police outriders and ambulance crews. Trump landed at Prestwick Airport at around 8.28pm and told reporters he had "a lot of love" for Scotland. However, not everyone was excited to see the President . Around five or six demonstrators lined the roadside near the entrance to the luxury resort, holding placards and shouting as Trump's convoy - including his armoured car known as The Beast - passed by. The modest protest at Turnberry stood in stark contrast to previous visits, particularly in 2016 when Trump faced widespread demonstrations during the opening of his Turnberry resort. In a moment that quickly went viral, late Scottish comedian Janey Godley, held up a sign reading " Trump is a c**”*"as his motorcade passed. During later visits in 2018, tens of thousands took to the streets across Edinburgh , Glasgow, and other cities in coordinated marches. This time around, protestors stood firm outside Turnberry. Police Scotland confirmed officers from other UK forces had been called in to help cover the visit. The Scottish Police Federation warned regular policing could be "seriously affected" by the security operation. Trump is expected to meet Prime Minister Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney during his stay, with talks reportedly set to cover trade and energy.
