A Peruvian soccer game took an unexpected turn when a referee defended himself by kicking an individual who rushed to attack him during a Peru Cup match in the Ancash region.
The clash occurred in the coastal city of Casma, in Ancash, during a game between Sport Huaquilla and Magdalena CEDEC in the Casma Distrital League last weekend.
According to media accounts, referee Luis Alegre found himself under threat after expelling a Magdalena player when a man ran towards him with a plastic bottle in hand, aiming to attack him.
As the pitch invader threw the bottle, Alegre raised his right leg and landed a flush kick, landing in the upper-chest and head area.
The kick felled the pitch invader, then security staff intervened to avoid further clashes.
The game was suspended after the incident.
