A chef with a vision
For Chef Christian Potts, the opening of Social House marks the culmination of years of experience, passion, and dedication to his craft.
Potts, 50, originally from Bethlehem, Pa., brings an impressive resume to his new home in Michigan.
With over three decades in the culinary world, Potts has worked at prestigious five-star resorts such as the Four Seasons and Nemacolin, as well as top-tier restaurants, serving people across the country.
His ability to push the boundaries of flavor and presentation has earned him accolades, and he is now focused on bringing something truly special to the Michigan food scene.
“I’m really anxious to see the feedback on my food,” Potts said. “That’s key.”
With his attention to detail and emphasis on modern techniques and flavors, Potts is determined to make Social House a destination for everyone.
The Grand Opening Special
To mark the grand opening, Potts will showcase his Amuse Bouche, a one-of-a-kind filet tataki sushi that is sure to be a conversation starter.
This dish is not your typical sushi.
Potts pounds filet steak, creates his own cream cheese, adds a selection of toppings, rolls it, and dusts it with cocoa powder, finishing it with truffle oil, sea salt, and a mint mousse.
“I don’t think anyone’s doing filet sushi anywhere,” he said. “It’s a unique dish I’m proud to offer for our grand opening. If it looks great and tastes great, you’re winning.”
This dish is a perfect example of the level of creativity Potts brings to the table.
It’s just one part of an exciting menu designed to surprise and delight guests, featuring dishes like seabass, pork belly, and salmon, as well as a variety of salads.
A focus on innovation and quality
Potts is known for his commitment to pushing the boundaries of culinary technique.
With a background influenced by industry giants like Michelin-starred chefs and gold medalists at the Food Olympics, Potts brings a scientific approach to cooking, experimenting with ingredients like Xanthan gum, Agar Agar, and Ultratex to create new textures and complex flavors.
“My goal is to get a James Beard award here,” Potts said. “I think with the staff we have, it will take time, but I think we can do something special here.”
His ambition is matched by a hands-on approach to leadership, ensuring every dish meets his high standards while creating an environment of growth and learning within his kitchen.
The Social House Experience
Located next door to the fast-casual Smash House Gourmet -- a takeout concept also owned by Ron Newton -- Social House offers a completely different dining experience.
Guests can expect an upscale environment at Social House that can seat up to 130 people and features 25 TVs.
The menu will also offer a strong selection of gluten-free options, ensuring everyone can enjoy a meal that caters to their dietary needs.
“I want to bring something special to the community,” said Newton. “It’s about creating a place where people can enjoy good food and great company.”
A special night awaits
As the doors open at 11 a.m. on April 30, the community will have its chance to experience Potts’ talent and culinary creativity.
With a menu that promises excitement and new flavors, Social House is not just about dining; it’s about creating an unforgettable experience for each guest.
“I think we can do something special here,” Potts said.
