Sonrisas Harmony sings for change on International Women’s Day

Today, March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to promoting gender equality and women’s rights. Sonrisas Harmony is once again using their voices to support this important cause with a moving performance of One Woman.
Since 2013, singers and musicians from around the world have performed this song to promote unity and raise awareness of gender equality. The song also supports UN Women, an organization working to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide.
Why gender equality still matters
This year’s International Women’s Day theme focuses on taking faster action to close the gender gap. The need for change is urgent. Studies show that one in three women in the EU has experienced violence as an adult. In 2021, official reports recorded 700 women murdered by a partner or family member across 17 EU countries. In Spain, 45 women were killed by a partner, and calls to domestic violence helplines increased by more than 45 per cent during the COVID-19 lockdown.
But gender inequality is not just about physical violence. Women also face economic challenges, including job losses and increased unpaid care work, making it harder to achieve financial independence.
Watch and share Sonrisas Harmony’s performance
Sonrisas Harmony hopes their video will shine a light on these issues and encourage more people to support UN Women’s work. The performance features 46 choir members, along with guest singers Paco Artes and Graeme Park. Musical Director Valerie Lynch also makes a rare solo appearance in this emotional tribute.
The One Woman video is now available on sonrisasharmony.es and their Facebook page. Sonrisas Harmony encourages everyone to watch, share, and spread awareness to help create a more equal world.
