Spring sports stars: Cast a vote for the top spring sports senior in Jackson

Spring sports are well underway and we are looking for your pick for the top senior athlete in spring sports in the Jackson area. With just a month or so left in their high school careers, the Class of ’25 is working to put the finishing touches on their legacy, and that is playing out on the fields and track and courses in the Jackson area. So here is your chance to cast a vote for the athlete in the senior class who has most impressed you so far this spring. Vote from now until Monday. If you cannot see the poll, click here. Luke Soper, Hanover-Horton baseball Soper is off to a strong start on the mound for the Comets with a 1.37 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings pitched. Everette Drummond, Jackson track and field Drummond made a name for herself in the Lincoln Indoor Classic in March when she was part of a winning 4x200 relay and won the 200. Bree Salts, Grass Lake softball Salts had one of the most powerful swings in the Jackson area last year, hitting .508 with seven home runs. The Central Michigan commit is already off to a strong start this year. In a recent doubleheader with Michigan Center she drove in six runs in one game and hit a grand slam in the other. Kenadee Golas, Western softball Part of a strong one-two punch at the top of the Panthers order, the Western shortstop was 3-for-4 with six RBIs in a recent game against Pennfield in one game of a double header, then drove in five runs in the next. Mariah Kerley, East Jackson track and field Kerley has a 36’8 throw in shot put and a 104’9 in discus already this year. Nick Wilding, Columbia Central baseball The Golden Eagles shortstop is batting .458 with a .542 slugging percentage and seven RBIs for a team off to a 7-3 start. Emma McIntyre, Michigan Center track and field McIntyre has a spot on the Jackson-area leaderboard in the 100 and has had strong races this year in the 200 as well as a couple of the Cardinals’ relay teams. Luke Bergkoetter, Jackson United lacrosse Bergkoetter is off to a strong start with the second-year program, showing how his speed can translate into scoring ability. Joy Flack, Napoleon soccer Flack had a shutout over Hanover-Horton on Monday and made five saves in a win last week over Jonesville. Charlie Saunders, Lumen Christi golf After shooting a 162 at the state meet last year and leading the Titans to a runner-up finish in Division 3, he has Lumen Christi ranked No. 1 in the MICGA Division 3 poll. Zander Goodwin, Jonesville track and field Goodwin has emerged as one of the top boys hurdlers in the area with PRs of 16.13 in the 110 hurdles and 41.58 in the 300 hurdles. He is also closing in on the 21-foot mark in long jump. Ava Golightly, Northwest softball Golightly brings speed and hitting ability to the top of the Mounties’ lineup, with a .714 average this year and three steals. Sarah Krupa, Leslie track and field Krupa has three wins already this year in shot put and two in discus. Kathleen Doane, Lumen Christi soccer Doane is a strong shut-down defender at the center of the Titans back line. Brennan Vainner, Western track and field Vainner in three meets has picked up three wins in shot put and three second-place finishes in discus. His season bests, both from last week’s Ralph Rice Invitational, are 56’4.5 in shot put and 139’9 in discus. Brooke Grant, Northwest soccer Grant’s speed makes her a threat to score at the top of the Mounties offense. Jacob Collins, Grass Lake baseball The Warriors centerfielder sets the table for a powerful lineup in the No. 3 spot in the order, collecting multi-hit and multi-RBI games throughout the Warriors hot start to 2025. Molly Brown, Addison track and field Already a state champion, Brown is setting up a dominant senior year with three wins in three starts in the 100, a win in her only start in the 200, three wins in three starts in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and wins in her only starts in the 4x100 and long jump.
