ANN ARBOR – Their experience is undeniable, and their leadership rarely goes unnoticed.
There are dozens of senior athletes from the Ann Arbor area who are looking to add to their legacies this spring and readers now have the chance to further acknowledge them for their efforts.
MLive-The Ann Arbor News has listed 64 senior athletes from the Ann Arbor area for readers to choose between for the top senior athlete from the area this spring.
Note that this list is strictly for seniors as we will highlight the top juniors, sophomores and freshmen later this month.
Readers will have unlimited voting for the top senior until the poll closes at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 28. The poll winner will be announced shortly after.
Without further ado, here are the candidates for the top Ann Arbor-area senior athlete. Please cast your vote at the bottom of the story.
Marissa Beck, Milan
Girls Track and Field
Beck is an all-around performer for the Big Reds but made her biggest impact in the shot put and discus with more than a dozen top 3 finishes between the two events last year.
Jeremiah Bowman, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Bowman is a veteran presence for the Gryphons and is entering his fourth season as their starting catcher.
The Rhodes College (TN) commit hit .375 with 24 hits and nine RBIs last season.
Anjali Brahmasandra, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Girls Soccer
Brahmasandra is a team captain for the Gryphons. Brahmasandra is a veteran player who will be expected to provide versatility from the middle of the field.
Ashton Brann, Ann Arbor Huron
Boys Track and Field
Brann is expected to contribute for the River Rats in several events this season. Last spring, Brann won races in the 200, 400 and 300 hurdles.
Braylon Brown, Ypsilanti Lincoln
Boys Track and Field
Brown returns this season after a junior year that saw him secure multiple top 5 finishes in the high jump.
Anna Bryant, Chelsea
Girls Track and Field
Bryant returns to the Bulldogs as one of their top performers from last season.
She won the shot put seven times and added five victories in the discus, including SEC-White titles in both events.
Drew Brzys, Dexter
Last season, Brzys placed 19th at the SEC-Red Championship and had a 38th-place finish at the D1 regionals.
Emma Budd, Milan
Girls Soccer
Budd returns this season following a junior year that saw her earn honorable mention all-state recognition after recording 23 goals and 12 assists.
Eliza Bush, Ypsilanti Arbor Prep
Girls Track and Field
Bush, committed to Oakland for cross country and track, finished her XC career with a state runner-up finish in the fall and had several victories in the 1600 and 3200 last spring.
Kendall Cabana, Dexter
Girls Soccer
Cabana is a veteran leader for the Dreadnaughts and was an all-conference honorable mention selection last season.
Sophie Chen, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Girls Tennis
Chen was on the No. 2 doubles team that won the D2 state title last year.
Ajax Coleman, Whitmore Lake
Coleman returns as a top player for the Trojans after finishing eighth overall at the D4 regionals last season.
Leila Daniels, Milan
Daniels is the reigning Player of the Year after recording a school-record 14 home runs with 46 hits and 41 RBIs last season. Daniels is committed to Bradley.
KJ Demars, Milan
Demars is expected to be one of the better pitchers in the area this season. Last year, he struck out 42 batters and had an ERA of 2.23.
Whitford Denzin, Ann Arbor Pioneer
Boys Lacrosse
Denzin was an honorable mention all-state selection last season.
Aidan Drain, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Drain will be called on to be an experienced leader for the Gryphons. He helped Greenhills make the D3 state finals with a 14th-place finish at regionals last season.
Miranda Dunn, Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard
Dunn is one of FGR’s top performers. She has 20 hits and 15 RBIs at the plate and 40 strikeouts as a pitcher so far this season.
Hunter Easton, Saline
Easton returns following an all-conference junior campaign. The Hope College commit posted 246 putouts and recorded a .988 fielding percentage last season.
Aliyah Ferguson, Ann Arbor Huron
Girls Track and Field
Ferguson was a standout hurdler for the River Rats last year. She had five top 3 finishes and took 10th at the Division 1 state finals (15.56).
Natalie Guo, Ann Arbor Pioneer
Girls Tennis
Guo combined with teammate Casey Roe to go 26-2 last year as the No. 1 doubles team for Pioneer.
Curtis Harding, Ypsilanti Lincoln
Harding earned a 14th-place finish at last year’s SEC-Red Championship and was the team’s top performer at regionals with a 35th-place finish. Harding has also won a match this season.
Sydney Hastings, Saline
Hastings was a first-team all-state selection last season after recording 57 hits with seven home runs and batted .438. She also had a .970 fielding percentage with 224 putouts. She is committed to Michigan.
Arella He, Ann Arbor Pioneer
Girls Tennis
He finished last year with a 22-3 record and a state semifinals appearance in the No. 4 singles tournament.
Olivia Henry, Milan
Girls Soccer
Henry has been the starting goalie for the Big Reds since her freshman season and her experience should be vital to Milan’s success defensively.
Haley Hopkins, Chelsea
Girls Tennis
Hopkins teamed up with Meghan Bareis last year and the duo finished the season as state runners-up in the No. 1 flight at the Division 3 state finals.
Yumin Jang, Ann Arbor Pioneer
Jang is expected to be one of the Pioneers’ top golfers this spring. The senior returns as a veteran presence having finished 28th at regionals last year.
Max Jenness, Milan
Jenness will return as Milan’s top golfer after recording multiple first-place finishes last season.
Adam Johnson, Milan
Boys Track and Field
Johnson narrowly missed out on an all-state finish in the 400 at last year’s D2 state finals. He had four wins in the event last season and won the 200 five times.
Savanna Kane, Ypsilanti Lincoln
Kane was a first-team all-conference honoree last season after batting .442 with 46 hits, 45 RBIs and eight home runs. She also won 11 games and had 130 strikeouts.
Sophia Kleer, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Girls Tennis
Kleer and teammate Chen went 23-1 en route to their D2 doubles title last season.
Miles Knox, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Boys Lacrosse
Knox was an honorable mention all-state midfielder last season.
Cole Kreuzer, Saline
Kreuzer, a Butler football commit, showcased his versatility as an athlete as he earned all-conference honors on the diamond in 2024. He went 8-1 last year with a 1.286 ERA and 42 strikeouts.
Gunnar Kruise, Milan
Kruise returns as the Big Reds’ top offensive weapon. He led the team in batting average (.334) hits (31) and runs scored (17) last season.
Avery Lay, Chelsea
Lay, a Grand Valley State basketball commit, is also a strong softball player. As a junior last spring, Lay batted .437 with 45 hits, 28 RBIs and 40 runs scored.
Lizzie Lewis, Dexter
Lewis was voted a team captain this year and had 16 hits and 15 RBIs last season.
Fran Love, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Love enters his fourth season as a starter. He finished last year as a pitcher with a 7-1 record and 69 strikeouts and an area-leading .808 ERA. He also batted .376 with 41 hits and 25 stolen bases.
Ashley Malinczak, Saline
Malinczak, a Hope College commit, had 37 hits and drove in 33 runs at the plate and had a .895 fielding percentage on defense last season.
Will McCalla, Chelsea
McCalla had 34 hits, 30 runs scored and 13 RBIs last season en route to earning honorable mention all-conference honors.
Alex McGlade, Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard
McGlade was one of FGR’s top performers last season. He finished 28th at regionals and has already earned a top-3 finishes this season.
Maddie Morgan, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Girls Tennis
Morgan is a two-time state champion and is undefeated early in her senior season.
Lucinda Paliani, Ann Arbor Huron
Girls Track and Field
Paliani had first-place finishes in the 800, 1600 and 3200 last season and competed in the 1600 at the D1 state finals.
Tyler Parrish, Saline
Boys Track and Field
Parrish is expected to be one of the Hornets’ top sprinters and finishing last year with victories in both the 100 and 200. He also helped Saline win several relay races.
Solana Peralta, Ann Arbor Huron
Girls Soccer
Peralta is an experienced defensive player for the River Rats and will be looking to build off her honorable mention all-conference recognition from last season.
Elliott Pike, Ann Arbor Pioneer
Pike was an all-conference honorable mention selection last season and will look to improve on his junior year.
Talen Pilz, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Pilz, a Pomona-Pitzer commit, recorded a .327 batting average with 34 hits and 14 RBIs last year. He also served as a pitcher and struck out an area-leading 82 batters.
Courtney Price, Ypsilanti
Boys Track and Field
Price is expected to provide a veteran presence for the Grizzlies. He had multiple top 5 finishes in the 200 and 400 last season.
Caleb Raymond, Ann Arbor Skyline
Raymond earned all-conference honors last season after finishing the year batting .377 with 23 hits, 12 RBIs and eight runs scored. He also had 54 strikeouts and a 1.83 ERA.
Noah Reeves, Saline
Reeves, a Hope College commit, earned all-conference honors last season after batting .327 with 32 hits, seven RBIs and 36 runs scored. He also had 28 stolen bases.
Braden Richards, Dexter
Richards is a veteran player for the Dreadnaughts who is expected to provide experience after finishing 25th at the conference meet and 38th at the D1 regionals.
Christina Roberts, Chelsea
Girls Soccer
Roberts, a Northern Michigan commit, was named honorable mention all-state and first-team all-conference last season.
Lauren Sheffield, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Girls Track and Field
Sheffield opened this season with wins in the shot put and discus, building off a junior year where she had more than a dozen top 3 finishes between the two events.
Kelsey Sinkiewicz, Ann Arbor Huron
Girls Soccer
The Schoolcraft commit will be expected to be one of the River Rats top offensive performers this season following a junior year where she was named all-conference honorable mention.
Sienna Snyder, Saline
Girls Soccer
Snyder was named first-team all-conference and honorable mention all-state last season and has already started her senior year strong with a two-goal performance.
Chance Sobbry, Dexter
Sobbry batted .429 with 42 hits, 20 RBIs, and scored 33 runs last season to earn first-team all-conference honors.
Alyssa Strickland, Ypsilanti Lincoln
Strickland made contributions both at the plate and as a pitcher last season. She finished the year 9-4 with 53 strikeouts and added 31 hits and 21 RBIs.
Ava Stripp, Saline
The Hillsdale commit has been on a tear to start her senior season. She has 12 hits, 16 RBIs and two home runs this year.
Brian Tillman, Chelsea
Tillman returns as one of the area’s top golfers. He tied for first at the SEC-White Championship and was fourth at the D2 regionals. He has already earned two victories this season.
Caleb Valentine, Whitmore Lake
Boys Track and Field
Valentine was an all-around performer for the Trojans last season. He competed in the pole vault at the D4 state finals and narrowly missed an all-state placement.
Leland Weiser, Ann Arbor Skyline
Boys Track and Field
Weiser won events in the 400 and had top 3 finishes in the 100 and 200 last season. He also helped the Eagles win relay races.
Sadie Wilkins, Ann Arbor Pioneer
Girls Soccer
Wilkins earned first-team all-conference honors and was named honorable mention all-state last season.
Cora Williams, Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard
Girls Track and Field
Williams had nine first-place finishes in the shot put last year and took sixth at the D2 state finals with a shot of 38-feet,11-inches. She also finished first in the discus four times in 2024.
Dominick Williamson, Ann Arbor Huron
Williamson has already shown improvements from his junior season with two second-place finishes this year.
He took 47th in the D1 regional tournament and 33rd at the SEC-Red final in 2024.
Cheyenne Wyly, Ypsilanti Lincoln
Girls Soccer
Wyly is a team captain for the Railsplitters who will be expected to provide veteran leadership and experience throughout the season.
Shangyang Xia, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Girls Tennis
Xia has won three consecutive individual state titles and a fourth would make her just the 12th player in MHSAA history to accomplish the feat, and the first in the Ann arbor area’s history.
