SSU Basketball Discusses the First Offseason with Their New Head Coach

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah State Men’s Basketball is in its first offseason under head coach Clevan Thompson.
Thompson assumed the role of head coach midway through the previous season after Horace Broadnax resigned. Prior to this, Thompson had been the assistant coach under Broadnax.
During that season, Thompson guided the Tigers to victory in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, earning them a spot in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament.
SSU has acquired seven new roster pieces in the offseason, to go along with 11 returning players.
Thompson said winning the SIAC Tournament has been a huge piece in recruiting.
“Winning and demonstrating our success,” he stated. “This encourages others to join us, and it aids us as coaches in shaping the successful culture we aim to establish here.”
One big addition to the roster is former Beach High School star James Leach. Leach transferred to Savannah State from St. Petersburg College.
