Star Australia & England Players Return For PSL After Massive Exodus, Team Confirms
@Source: news18.com
Former Australia cricketer David Warner and England batter James Vince are among players returning for the 2025 Pakistan Super League, their franchise, Karachi Kings, confirmed in the wee hours of Friday. All overseas players had left Pakistan after their escalated cross-border tensions with India.
Besides skipper Warner and Vince, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, New Zealand wicketkeeper Tim Seifert and Australia wicketkeeper-batter Ben McDermott will also return to play for Karachi.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is considering having a mini replacement draft for the remaining Pakistan Super League games as teams are struggling to ensure the availability of overseas cricketers who left the nation in the wake of the recent India-Pakistan military conflict.
Karachi have bolstered their team ahead of the resumption of PSL with the signing of Scotland opener George Munsey.
The Pakistan Super League will resume from Saturday, May 17, when the Peshawar Zalmi take on Karachi at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
On May 19, Islamabad United and Karachi will feature in the last league game of the tournament. Karachi sit in second place with 10 points, having won five out of eight games. Defending champions Islamabad are in third place, with 10 points as well, after five victories and four defeats in nine matches.
The Pakistan Cricket Board planned to relocate the PSL to the UAE, but suspended it after tension grew at the border.
A franchise official said that since Multan had only one game remaining and were out of the running for the playoffs, it wasn’t cost-effective for them to recall their overseas cricketers.
The official said that if the teams did not face much success in convincing their overseas players to return, the Pakistan Cricket Board would consider having a mini replacement draft.
The source said that some teams had had success in convincing some of their overseas signings to return, but many who left for their nations via Dubai weren’t keen to come back so soon after the conflict.
With Warner, Vince, Nabi and Seifert all returning, Karachi is placed very well to play their same XI from their previous win against the Lahore Qalandars earlier this month.
