Fast-bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott on Sunday (June 15) was added to Australia’s Test squad for the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies. Australia, which suffered a shocking defeat by 5 wickets against South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final at Lord’s on June 14, will travel to the Caribbean islands later this month to take part in a three-match Test series, which will be followed by five T20Is between the two teams. According to an update shared by cricket.com.au on Sunday afternoon, 33-year-old Abbott, who has played 28 ODIs and 20 T20Is for Australia so far, has been recalled to the Test squad after an injury to fast bowler Brendan Doggett. Doggett, who was Australia’s travelling reserve for the World Test Championship final, is heading back home after picking up a minor hip issue. Abbott rejoins the Test squad after also being part of the group that toured Sri Lanka earlier this year for a two-match Test series. Abbott last played a red-ball match in March 2025 for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield against Tasmania in Hobart and picked up six wickets for 99 runs in the first innings, apart from scoring 30 and 28 runs with the bat. The tour starts on June 25 The first Test of the three-match series between the West Indies and Australia will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados from June 25 to 29, and the next two matches are scheduled to take place at the National Cricket Stadium in St. Georges, Grenada, from July 3 to 7, and Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, from July 12 to 16. In the last Test match played between the two teams in January 2024, West Indies secured a famous win over the Aussies at The Gabba in Brisbane.
