Stirling dance school ready to share stage with Sigala for world record effort

A group of talented young dancers from a Raploch training school are set to perform on the same stage as an international pop star in an effort to break a special world record. The posse of 46 competition pupils from Kay Klass Dance have been selected to take part alongside 2500 other dancers from across the UK in a challenge to crack the record for the most dancers performing with a music artist. The world record attempt will take place at the Boundary Park rugby stadium in Oldham near Manchester - and the excitement has since gone up a notch for those taking part after finding out they will be performing alongside DJ and producer Sigala. The Kay Klass kids have been at work in the training studio three times a week preparing for the world record effort and met the event’s choreographer for an intensive run-through at Stirling County rugby club on Sunday. Dance school owner Kay Hamilton said: “One of the people behind Pro-Excel, the company organising all of it, contacted me after seeing the charity work we do for local hospices and good causes and asked if it was something we’d be interested in taking part in. “We didn’t actually know who the pop star was going to be at that point and it just seemed such an interesting opportunity and something different from the competitions. “The motto at the school is very much about making sure people are active and having fun, so this seemed like a great chance to satisfy that. “The kids are so excited about it; we have our annual shows in the Albert Halls and we’ve used a lot of Sigala tracks so it’s quite nice that it’s him we’re performing with and the kids know all of the songs. “Some of the children actually found out who it was before I did, they had been stalking the page and suddenly there was just this load of screaming and shouting.” The world record effort will see a total of 2500 young dancers taking to the stage - with 1000 performers from Oldham and the surrounding area being joined by a further 1500 from across the UK, including the Stirling contingent. It will raise money for a pair of good causes - Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Motor Neurone Disease Association - the latter cause particularly poignant given the passing of former rugby league star Rob Burrow. Alongside the intensive training and learning the steps, there has also been fundraising and planning for the youngsters to get to the big event on May 10. “The parents have been amazing in organising everything and businesses have been getting involved in fundraising, so the plan will be to go down to the hotel on the Friday, then go to the rugby game and have their rehearsals before the big event day. “It’s an action-packed weekend for sure and I know the kids are absolutely buzzing to get down there.”
