Stuck In Traffic? Bengaluru Man Says ‘Just Walk To Office’ In Viral Post
@Source: news18.com
Bengaluru may be known for its lush green parks, but its traffic congestion has become a major headache for residents. Week after week, the city makes headlines for massive traffic jams that lead to frustrating delays for commuters. While many have offered suggestions to tackle this daily struggle, one frustrated office-goer recently shared a simple yet practical tip: leave your vehicle at home and walk to work. According to him, walking might actually get you there faster than driving. Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), the user wrote, “If you’re anywhere near Kundalahalli, leave your vehicle at home and just walk to the office – you’ll probably get there faster on foot. Plus, the weather’s great for a walk.” If you’re anywhere near Kundalahalli, leave your vehicle at home and just walk to office – you’ll probably get there faster on foot. Plus, the weather’s great for a walk Reacting to the post, a user asked, “But is there space to walk?” Another shared, “That’s why we are proposing tunnel connectivity. Tunnel is the only solution to overcome traffic in Bengaluru.” “Traffic is bad everywhere. 20 min delay on ring road leading up to Goraguntepalya,” a comment read. An individual asked, “Where is the footpath to walk?” Another mentioned, “In case of no footpath, start digging a tunnel. Tunnel is the way forward.” One more added, “No footpath available to walk. Wherever it is available, it has been encroached by street vendors.” Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha and a resident of Bengaluru, has become tired of hearing constant complaints about the city’s traffic. He wanted to understand the real reason behind the problem, due to which he decided to speak directly to those in charge. In May, during an episode of his WTF Podcast, he invited Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda and Traffic Police Commissioner MN Anucheth to discuss the issue. Anucheth shared, “I think every major metropolitan city across the world faces the issue of traffic. Because, let’s face it, cities are magnets or attractive places for employment. The thing with Bengaluru has been that post 2000, after the IT boom, there has been a significant explosive growth, and the infrastructure has not commensurately grown with the growth of vehicles or the human population. Now, Bengaluru has the highest number of vehicles, it’s 872 per 1000 population. So, we have a 1.5 crore population with 1.23 crore vehicle population. We doubled between 2013 and 2023. It was 56 lakhs, it became 1.12 crores.” Commissioner MN Anucheth explained that Bengaluru has grown so fast that the roads and other systems aren’t taken care of on time. Because of this, the government planned to add more public transport options. In the past, the city didn’t have enough public transport. Before the metro started, people only had BMTC buses. Other cities like Kolkata had trams, Delhi had the metro for years, and Mumbai had local trains. But Bengaluru didn’t have such services, which made the traffic problem worse.
