Students converge at campus for info

Students from as far as Bua and Udu Point converged at the Fiji National University’s Labasa Campus yesterday in search of career information.

Campus head Pradeep Lal said they expected about 2000 students to be part of the two-day event.

“We’ve spread it out over two days so that the students can spend more time collecting the necessary information they need about the career they’re interested in taking up after completing secondary education,” Mr Lal said.

“A few programs that FNU introduced over the years have become very popular with more students enrolling in them like hospitality and tourism courses.

“We expect this number to increase, and looking at the response from the students, agriculture is becoming popular too.”

Mr Lal said they had as many as 1000 students, including those registered online.

Duavata Secondary School headgirl Maria Prasad said the event had provided them with valuable information for possible future careers.

“Most of us are aware now of what jobs we’d like to do after we leave secondary school and we’re glad to be part of this FNU open day,” she said.

Immaculate Conception College headboy Filipe Rasousou said they left Bua at 6am but the students didn’t mind because they wanted to get information about their future.

“We’ve collected all the information we need and next year we will be in FNU,” Rasousou said.
