@Source: news18.com
Mandi, a small town in Himachal Pradesh, has been struck by nature’s wrath. Heavy rainfall since Monday has resulted in flood-like situations in various parts of the district. The Zonal Hospital Mandi is the worst hit, receiving excessive water accumulation and drain overflow. Local reports have revealed that Mandi has been witnessing multiple landslides, halting traffic and endangering the lives of people living in the landslide-prone regions. Amid this, a scary video has surfaced on social media highlighting the aftermath of the torrential downpour, which killed at least two people.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by news agency ANI, several cars were seen submerged in thick, muddy puddles. Mass destruction caused by incessant rain, fallen tree trunks, and collapsed houses added to the trouble. Elsewhere, visuals showed a damaged car stuck between two structures and dirty water gushes below. The side note read, “Himachal Pradesh | Flood-like situation in various parts of Mandi following heavy rainfall in the city.”

According to ANI, Mandi recorded the highest number of fatalities (32) during the monsoon season this year. Reportedly, over 40 people lost their lives in Kangra and Chamba. The devastation extends to house wreckages, damage to livestock and public property with more than Rs 1.52,311 lakh in economic losses, reported as of now.
“Since June 20, the state has witnessed 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts and 32 landslides, resulting in widespread damage to roads, houses and infrastructure. Mandi district has reported the highest number of rain-related casualties,” shared SDMA in a statement.
Authorities in the Mandi district have already begun road clearance operations, reported ANI. They have deployed disaster response teams and issued warnings to the general public in disaster-prone areas. Intermittent rain is, however, posing a hindrance to the relief work.
