Mitcham's Corner in Cambridge has transformed over the last couple of decades, with the introduction of charming cafes and restaurants serving meals from diverse cuisines. One bar, however, has managed to stay serving pints against the odds.
The Tivoli has a long history of entertaining the community. The art-deco building on the Chesterton Road section of Mitcham's Corner had started out as a cinema in 1925, before becoming a warehouse from 1956.
The building was a pub by 2004 and was taken over by Wetherspoons six years later. It continues to serve pints – today as a bar offering crazy golf, shuffleboards, burgers and pizzas. This is despite a devastating fire that hit in March 2015.
The blaze burned through the Wetherspoons for 10 hours, gutting the building and causing the roof to collapse. It is thought to have started in the kitchen.
Thankfully, nobody was inside the pub at the time. Proposals for the entertainment bar were put forward in 2018, and the transformed spot finally opened to crazy-golfing punters in 2022.
The Tivoli is open from midday every day, closing at 11pm Monday to Thursday, 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and 9pm on Sunday.
