The One Show's Alex Jones issues three-word verdict on major family decision

Alex Jones has opened up about her family's life-changing decision to swap city living for the tranquillity of the countryside, and she hasn't regretted it for a moment. Speaking on the Netmums podcast, The One Show presenter and mother-of-three delved into her family's new chapter away from the capital. Alex, along with her husband Charlie Thomson, sought a quieter life for their brood after leaving their London home . The family was keen on finding a location within reach of London, and Alex shared that the family "haven't looked back". She said: "In the end, we found this house, which is lovely. It's got a lovely soul but potential. That word, 'potential'." She affectionately described their new abode: "And I feel bad being dismissive of it because we feel really lucky to have the house, but it's a little bit care home, you know? A little bit, but it's got lovely bones and a lovely feel, and it felt like home from the very beginning, which is lovely." For Alex, the move has been particularly beneficial for her children, noting a significant improvement in their health: "But for the children, it's been an absolute game-changer. They stopped coughing. I didn't realise it was a thing, but in London, they'd always have this cough and it would linger and that stopped." She also touched on the positive impact the move has had on her two "very active boys", Teddy and Kit, and her "pretty active" daughter, Annie. With her sons' love for football and rugby , she likened them to "two puppies" who "need to run", highlighting the advantages of their new environment. She went into detail about the newfound joy in their family life: "And now we can sit in the garden and they can run, and you know, fill hours outside, which is wonderful to see. So, we haven't looked back, really. We love it, and as I say, it's still quite close." Alex, a Central London worker, expressed appreciation for the work-life balance the new arrangement offers, enabling them to still enjoy urban activities while appreciating the clear distinction between office and home life, a split she finds "quite healthy". Last year, Alex opened up on the Binge! podcast about a point of conflict within her home life following their relocation. She shared a particularly contentious issue that arose with her husband. While adjusting to the move, they had to enrol their children in three different schools, an ordeal that Alex metaphorically referenced to the tough competition portrayed in Channel 4's SAS: Who Dares Wins. She said: "So Charlie…I hate whiteboards; I have a real thing against whiteboards: fine in a classroom and an office. In a playroom? No, thank you. "Well, he stuck it up! He’s made our playroom look like a corporate space. It is so horrible. We don’t have pens we can write on it with. So what is the point." You can catch Alex on Celebrity Catchphrase tonight (Sunday, 30 March) from 7pm to 8pm on ITV.
