The Rangers risk Steven Naismith reckons will come into play despite usual Celtic psyche up
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
Steven Naismith believes that the weight of the occasion will carry Rangers through in their Old Firm showdown on Sunday, but also reckons that the Hoops will be looking to exploit a delayed European hangover. Interim boss Barry Ferguson takes his side to Parkhead tomorrow just three days after the Light Blues edged out Fenerbahce in a nail-biting penalty shootout to reach the quarter finals of the Europa League. The quick turnaround in games hasn't given Rangers much time to recover but former Ibrox striker Naismith insists the players can battle through the fatigue to try and get one over their bitter rivals. Rangers will be backed by 2,500 supporters inside Celtic Park after the two clubs finally ended their away allocation dispute. He does however note that Celtic and Brendan Rodgers will be ready to take advantage if Gers' energy levels drop as the game goes on. Speaking on Sportscene, he said: "There's not and that's maybe something you might look at later on in the game. But going into the derby, it's bigger than the Thursday game for players. "The buzz of the fixture, the atmosphere and playing against your biggest rivals (will pull the team through). "Barry Ferguson's comments about mentality, that is the mentality you need at the Old Firm. To go again and again and again. That's what they will need come tomorrow. "Celtic will have a wee bit of an edge to go 'right we want to put on a performance' being at home and they'll try and use the extra time and penalties during the week, I'm sure that will be said. "But for Rangers it is about getting that bit of pride back by saying 'the season has not been good enough and the European run has dragged us along but can we now as a group go and put on performances that we believe in'.
