The results are still there insists Ireland coach, the Six Nations three-peat can still happen
@Source: irishmirror.ie
Simon Easterby hasn't given up on the Six Nations.The title is still there to be won but it would require, first and foremost, Scotland to beat France in Paris, in the last of the Super Saturday games next weekend."It is out of our hands," concedes the Ireland coach. "That's kind of disappointing because we genuinely felt before the game we could win. We just didn't quite convert enough of the opportunities and at half-time we felt like we were in the ascendancy."We felt like we had kind of broken the back of them a little bit and even though the scoreline, at 6-8, wasn't in our favour."We go out in the second half, we score a great maul try. We seem to lose it down the back stretch, down to a number of different things."Easterby was adamant that Calvin Nash's yellow card wasn't a sin-binning offence and it coincided with the Ireland chances of winning plummeting."It's devastating that we've not been able to produce a better performance, not in all the game, just in dealing with chunks of the game which allowed them to get the momentum and get the result."They were really good. But, and I kind of hold back a little bit on reflecting too much on it, but I would like to think that in the real crux moments, we weren't good enough ourselves."So I think they were good but also we probably offered them an opportunity to be a little bit better than maybe we would have liked."Forty-two is the highest score ever posted by France in Dublin and was only surpassed by 44-12 in Paris 1992, 45-10 in Paris 1996, 44-5 in Paris 2002, 43-10 in Melbourne at RWC 2003 and 43-31 in Paris 2006."So it is disappointing after not losing a home game in four years, missing the opportunity to win a Grand Slam, but we still have got a chance."We still feel, genuinely, feel like there's more in us and this group, to a man, are unbelievable."They are brilliant at just taking the positives, understanding why they didn't quite click and get the most out of the game and will work incredibly hard together to put in a performance next weekend. "But it's the highest level, it's those teams that find a way to win and we've done that a few times in the last three weeks or last few games."We didn't manage to do that today, we came up against a good side and we'll also be disappointed with certain elements of that performance that allowed them to get ahead of us and take the game away."Ireland will regroup this week, they meet Italy in Rome in the first of next Saturday's three games, the object will be to win, to post a target at the top of the table."It's about recovery first. I guess they are such good men. They work so hard. They play for each other, they play for their families and friends."They play for Ireland, in a way that we've seen across the last couple of years, which is an inspiration, and it inspires us as coaches, inspires the back room."I guess that's their challenge now, to put that disappointment behind them and get themselves together."Stay nice and tight, understand why we didn't get the result today, understand how we can get better next week. And that's all they are ever about, just getting better."
