There is no doubt that being the first Sun Day Red ambassador has had its benefits for Karl Vilips. Undoubtedly, the fact that Tiger Woods called him after winning the Puerto Rico Open must rank high on his list of reasons to be happy about his partnership with the brand.Vilips himself revealed that the legendary player called him after his first PGA Tour victory. He also confirmed that the call came as such a shock that he did not immediately return it."Yeah, it was tough because I got on my phone after the round and I was just scrolling, like who was texting me?," Vilips told the media. "I think I got one from a random number that called me as well.""Then there was a voicemail saying 'it's Tiger' and I couldn't like, process it in the moment, I was just trying to -- you know, I'll get back to that later. That's pretty cool."Vilips won the Puerto Rico Open with a 26-under score in just his fourth start on the PGA Tour. It is his second professional victory after graduating from Stanford University in mid-2024 (he won the 2024 Utah Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour).Vilips has done very well since signing with Sun Day Red. He has made the cut in all three PGA Tour events he has played, and his victory in Puerto Rico was preceded by a T72 at the Mexico Open and a T39 at the Cognizant Classic. In this regard, the Australian said he was very happy to have been able to represent the brand with these performances."Well, I signed it three weeks ago, so not too long since a Sun Day Red player has gotten a win," he said. "I think it's really special. I think it shows me that there's a reason why they chose me to rep their brand and I'm just really happy to be able to do it in a way that's, you know, as myself.""It's really cool and I know everyone at Sun Day Red team is going to be super happy. You've got to look good to play good, so yeah, it's really cool."Karl Vilips is the first rookie to win on the PGA Tour this season and the first since Matt McCarthy won the Black Desert Championship last October. Vilips, 23, is also the youngest player to win on the tour since Nick Dunlap, 20, won the Barracuda Championship last July.More Golf: PGA Tour Reveals The PLAYERS Field with Legendary Trio Pairing
