Tiger Woods' Son, Charlie, Wraps Up Successful Junior PGA Despite Missing Team USA Chance
@Source: newsweek.com
Tiger Woods' son, Charlie, couldn't come close to the level he had shown the day before and dropped seven spots on the Junior PGA Championship leaderboard. His final score for the event was 9-under 276, finishing tied for ninth.Charlie had made two birdies and two bogeys up to the 13th hole, but the worst came later. The young Woods carded a bogey and double bogey on the 14th and 15th, respectively, to completely seal his fate for the round and the event.Still, a top-10 finish in this tournament is one of the most significant results of his young golf career.Charlie, who started the fourth round tied for second, failed to secure one of the two spots for the team that will compete in the Junior Ryder Cup. The system established by the PGA of America grants direct qualification to the top two finishers in the Junior PGA Championship.His result at this event gave Charlie 80 points toward the Junior Ryder Cup team's qualifying ranking, bringing his total to 455. This will allow him to move up a few places in the rankings, but he'll be out of reach of the top two, who also earn a spot on the team.Charlie still has a chance to be selected by captain Suzy Whaley as the sixth boy member of the team. He will certainly face stiff competition in this regard, as he has approximately seven players ranked higher on the Junior Ryder Cup points list.However, Charlie has as strong a case as anyone else, as he has one win this season unlike the aforementioned seven players. Another detail is that two of those seven players tied with Charlie in the Junior PGA Championship, but none finished better than him.Lunden Esterline cruised through the fourth round to comfortably win the Boys Junior PGA Championship with a six-stroke lead.As for the girls, Asterisk Talley confirmed her favored status and won with a score of 12-under, one stroke ahead of Zoe Cusack. Both also secured their spots on the Junior Ryder Cup team.More Golf: Adam Scott Embraces 'Do Or Die' Philosophy With Playoffs On Line
