Maria David THE eighth edition of the Top Score Oshiwana seven-a-side tournament was officially launched at Oshakati on Wednesday. The tournament, which will commence on 31 July, will conclude on 03 August 2025, where sportsmen and women will compete in sports such as soccer and volleyball to be crowned champions. The tournament is being held under the theme “A united community chasing a common goal.” The tournament attracted a total of 101 teams from the northern part of the country. Among these, 77 are soccer teams, 11 legends, and 13 volleyball teams. Speaking during the launch, Top Score Brand Manager Diego Talaya said this year an amount of N$300,000 was invested in hosting the tournament. According to Talaya, Oshiwana was never just about soccer. It was never just about winning trophies or lifting medals. “It was, and still is, about coming together—from different corners, different streets, and different stories—to play, to cheer, to connect, and to dream together,” he said. Talaya indicated that the tournament has grown to a great magnitude. “This, for us, means we believe in and create hope for the future. Every pass made on the pitch, every goal scored, every whistle blown—it all represents more than sport. It represents belonging. It represents hope, and it represents the power of unity,” he added. Meanwhile, Founder of GD Events and Promotions Cc, Jackson Peuyelenga Da Silva, indicated that they celebrate not just the spirit of competition, but the essence of community. He explained that sports have an incredible power to bring people together, transcending age, background, and differences. “Whether we are on the soccer field or the volleyball court, we are united by our shared passion for the game and our desire to create a stronger, more connected community,” he said. He said that the youth will showcase their skills in soccer, embodying the energy that comes with their age. Let’s encourage them to play with heart, to learn from each other, and to build friendships that will last a lifetime. In Women’s and Men’s Legends Soccer, the first-place team will secure N$5,000, a trophy, and gold medals, with N$3,000 and silver medals for second place, and N$2,000 and bronze medals for third. For volleyball, champions will be awarded N$7,000, a trophy, and gold medals, while second and third places will receive N$5,000 with silver medals and N$3,500 with bronze medals, respectively.
