New Jersey has pushed back a final decision until at least April 30 on whether Donald Trump’s felony conviction disqualifies two of his golf clubs from holding liquor licenses—one of the few potential repercussions of his guilty verdict.

In May 2024, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records tied to a hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels during the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign, with each count punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 per offense and/or up to four years in prison.
New Jersey law prohibits individuals convicted of crimes “involving moral turpitude”—a category that includes “dishonesty, fraud or depravity” severe enough to typically be punishable by more than a year in prison—from holding a liquor license, according to a state handbook, first reported by Forbes in June 2024.
Following Trump’s conviction and Forbes inquiry, the state’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control decided against renewing liquor licenses at two of his clubs—in Bedminster and Colts Neck—instead granting interim 90-day permits and scheduling a heading for after his sentencing.
Trump’s sentencing was delayed, the ABC hearing was postponed and the temporary licenses were extended after the U.S. Supreme Court expanded the scope of presidential immunity in July 2024.
While Trump was formally convicted in January 2025, when the Manhattan judge granted him an “unconditional discharge” in the wake of his after re-election, Trump’s clubs continue to operate under temporary licenses, now set to expire on April 30, a spokesperson for the New Jersey attorney general, Allison Inserro, told Forbes on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Crucial Quote
“Ad interim permits for the two liquor licenses were extended to April 30, 2025,” Inserro told Forbes. “The Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control has no further comment.”
“President Trump is not the holder of any liquor license in New Jersey, and he is not an officer or director of any entity that holds a liquor license in New Jersey—or anywhere in the United States for that matter,” according to a statement a spokesperson for the Trump Organization provided to media outlets after Forbes’ initial report.
Key Background
Trump is the sole owner of the two clubs under review. The businesses named on the liquor licenses are owned by a revocable trust, with Trump the sole provider of assets to the trust and also its sole beneficiary. The New Jersey ABC concluded that “Trump maintains a direct beneficial interest” in the liquor licenses through the receipt of revenues and profits from them.
$53,561,915: The income Trump reported from his Bedminster and Colts Neck clubs on his August 2024 financial disclosure, which covered around 16 months.
What We Don’t Know
It’s not clear if the New Jersey ABC will reach a final decision on Trump’s liquor licenses by April 30 or if it will extend the temporary permits.
Surprising Fact
The presidential seal has turned up on golf markers at five Trump golf courses, a possible violation of federal law that prohibits its use for commercial purposes.
Trump’s club in Colts Neck paid a $400,000 fine after a 2005 fatal car crash involving a customer who had been drinking at the club. Police reported that the driver’s blood alcohol content at the time was over the legal limit of .08. Trump’s club was charged with serving a person who was “actually or apparently intoxicated” and providing alcohol on the golf course beyond the scope of its liquor license.
Forbes Valuation
Donald Trump is worth about $4.8 billion, with Trump Media shares making up the bulk of his fortune.
