Turkish security forces detained 2,365 suspects in operations against drug dealers in the past two weeks, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Tuesday.
The police seized more than 1.4 tons of drugs and over 2.37 million pills in raids across 76 provinces, Yerlikaya said on the social media platform X.
He noted that 3,547 teams, 8,867 personnel, 38 aerial vehicles, and 72 narcotic detection dogs participated in the operations.
In 2024, Turkish authorities seized over 86 tons of drugs and arrested more than 32,000 suspects over drug production, trade, and use, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported, citing data compiled from the Interior Ministry.
Located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, Türkiye has been grappling with international drug smuggling for years. Turkish security forces frequently launch operations against drug dealers as part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking. ■
