Two-time Olympic Games gold medallists Jerry Tuwai has joined the Mumbai Dreamers as they prepare for the inaugural Rugby Premier League (RPL) sevens rugby competition in India that kicks-off on June 15.
The Dreamers welcomed surprise inclusion Tuwai and Waisea Nacuqu when they arrived in Mumbai over the weekend.
Also joining them was Australia’s Henry Hutchinson and Aaron Cummings of USA.
“I’m stoked to be representing the city (Mumbai),” Hutchinson said.
“I can’t wait to show the Australian speed and grit.”
Cummings said he came all the way from America to show what sevens rugby is about.
”I’m ready,” he added.
Lanky forward Joseva Talacolo and Filipe Sauturaga have also reported to camp with the Chennai Bulls.
The competition will be from June 15-29 at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai. World Rugby has granted RPL a dedicated 15-day window, ensuring that no other international rugby 7s competitions take place during this period
There are six registered franchise clubs- Dreamers, Bulls, Delhi Redz, Hyderabad Heroes, Kalinga Black Tigers and Bengaluru Bravehearts- participating.
Nippy halfback Terio Tamani is playing for Heroes along with the newly signed Fijian Drua winger Joji Nasova. Also donning Bravehearts jumpers are Ioane Teba and Fiji-born New Zealand playmaker Akuila Rokolisoa. New Zealand 7s head coach Tomasi Cama Jnr is coaching Redz.
