Two drivers have died after a head-on collision near Melbourne after a vehicle sped past a police operation.
State Highway Patrol officers were stopping vehicles on Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road in Toolern Vale north west of Melbourne when they saw a car speed past.
It then collided head-on with a second vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene.
They have not been formally identified
A passenger of the first car was rushed to hospital with minor injuries.
Police are investigating and are appealing for CCTV or dashcam footage.

They say Professional Standards Command will have oversight of the investigation as is standard procedure.
