KARACHI (Monitoring Desk): Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the role of Bangladesh men’s cricket team’s bowling coach.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is reportedly considering replacing current bowling coach Andre Adams, despite his contract running until February 2026.
Reports suggested that Gul and former Australian pacer Shaun Tait are among the frontrunners for the position should the BCB decide to part ways with Adams.
Both candidates bring extensive coaching experience, with Gul having previously served as Pakistan’s bowling coach and also working with Afghanistan’s national team.
Tait, too, has been part of Pakistan’s coaching setup in the past. The potential change in the bowling department comes amid broader coaching adjustments within Bangladesh cricket.
The BCB recently extended head coach Phil Simmons’ contract until the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, signaling a long-term commitment to stability in the team’s management.
Simmons expressed his enthusiasm for the extension, stating: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Bangladesh cricket on a long-term basis. The talent within this team is undeniable, and I believe we have the potential to achieve great things together.”
He further added that his experience with the Bangladesh team so far has been “incredibly rewarding,” praising the squad’s energy, commitment, and ability.
