The Nigerian international has outperformed some of Europe's biggest stars, including Kylian Mbappe, in LaLiga’s recent scoring charts.
Sadiq fires Valencia to vital win with clinical display
Valencia secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid at the Mestalla, and it was Umar Sadiq who delivered when it mattered most.
After Diego Lopez’s early opener was canceled out by Juanmi Latasa, Sadiq stepped up just before the hour mark to fire home the winner.
This goal marked Sadiq’s fourth strike in as many appearances, following a brace against Osasuna and another goal against Villarreal, as he continues to find his groove since making a loan move from Real Sociedad.
The 26-year-old had struggled for consistency following his return from injury, but his latest displays suggest he’s now fully settled in at Valencia.
Sadiq’s incredible stats
While Sadiq’s scoring run has been impressive on the surface, a deeper look into the numbers makes it even more remarkable.
According to Opta, the Nigerian forward has scored four goals from four shots on target in La Liga since February 1st—a perfect 100% conversion rate.
Notably, this puts him ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who has managed only three goals in that same period.
In fact, only one player in the entire league has scored more than Sadiq in this time frame, Athletic Club’s Oihan Sancet.
With his newfound confidence, Sadiq will be hoping his recent form has impressed Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle enough to secure a place in the final 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
