Vernon Kay jokingly told listeners that he's having a "midlife crisis", as he admitted to being "addicted" to his new lawnmower on his BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday. Back on the airwaves after the Bank Holiday weekend, the 51-year-old was keen to hear what some of his audience had been ‘making, mending, fixing [or] sorting. Sharing what he got up to, Vernon said he had enjoyed sorting out his garden using his brand new lawnmower. "I ain't gonna lie, I'll be honest with you gang, I'm addicted to the lawnmower, it's a proper midlife crisis," he shared. Addressing his colleagues who were laughing in the background, he continued: "No, it really is! You're laughing, Janice and Janine, you're laughing, once it fires up, it's a cracker, honest, it's so good." Vernon went on to say he’s also learnt that mowing a lawn can involve multiple stages, rather than being a simple one-way task. "I've learnt that even though you want your grass quite short, you have to do it through stages," he shared. "Even though the lawnmower that I chose has got a pretty good engine, it does struggle going through the thick, thick, grass. "So you do it in stages, you raise it up, you lower it down, lower it down, you lower it down, and now it still looks horrendous because it's all burnt out, because we've had a lot of sunshine, but it's a lot shorter. "I can get my sand wedge underneath my golf balls properly now in the back garden, that's all that matters," he added. Vernon said his efforts have also been praised by his wife of 22 years Tess Daly , the host of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing . "I got the seal of approval from Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly," he added, proudly. "[She said], 'Oh, it looks lovely'." Having initially been told that he wouldn't be able to achieve stripes in the grass with his new machine, Vernon said this wasn't the case after all. "It looks wonderful," he echoed. The presenter's update came after he proudly showed off his new lawnmower to fans on Instagram, earlier this week. In the clip, he began to unbox the device in his garden, as he spoke fans through its features. Captioning his post, he jokingly warned his followers that "serious adulting" was incoming and added: "It’s very [spicy] content, so brace yourselves! However, this is only Pt1!! Pt2, 'The first Pull' to follow, you’ve been warned." Reflecting on fans' reactions to the video, he said he thought he'd have "keyboard warriors" saying negative things, but received the opposite response. "The joy it gave people of me taking a lawnmower out of a cardboard box was hilarious," he shared. "And it started the second time, two pulls and we were away."
