Run Machine Virat Kohli continues to set records in international cricket. The Indian batter has added another feather to his cap by completing 14,000 runs in ODI cricket. He reached the landmark with his 15th run against Pakistan in India's second match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Kohli has become only the third player with this feat. Kohli is the third player with 14,000 runs in ODI history, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara. Tendulkar, the greatest-ever batter, bid adieu to the 50-over format with a staggering 18,426 runs. And Lankan great Sangakkara racked up 14,234 runs in his 15-year ODI career. While Kohli will likely surpass Sanga, it remains to be seen if he will match Tendulkar's exploits. It is worth noting that Kohli is the fastest to 14,000 runs in ODI cricket. He took only 299 matches and 287 innings for the same. The Indian batter is miles ahead of Tendulkar (350 innings) and Sangakkara (378 innings). Kohli holds the record for smashing the most centuries in ODI cricket. He surpassed the long-standing record of Tendulkar with his 50th ton during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. The latter smacked 49 ODI tons in his career. This is an uncanny record as no other batter has more than 31 centuries in the format as of now. Kohli's ODI record in run-chases deserves a special mention. He is the master of run-chases after all. The 36-year-old is the only cricketer to have slammed over 20 (23) ODI centuries in successful run-chases. He averages an astonishing 80-plus in this regard. Even the great Tendulkar is behind Kohli. The Master Blaster has 14 ODI tons in these games. In 2018, Kohli became the fourth Indian batter with 10,000 ODI runs. To date, he remains the fastest to this landmark (205 innings). Kohli's average on completing his 10,000th run was 59.62. Interestingly, the Indian batter took just 11 innings to go from 9,000 to 10,000 runs in the format. He is also the fastest to 11,000, 12,000, 13,000, and 14,000 runs.
