@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
Virgin River star Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan , has issued a urgent warning to his fans as fraudsters continue to pose as him in an attempt to swindle money. it's an issue that Scots star Sam Heughan has also faced, as scammers pretend to be famous actors and target the fanbase of huge international TV shows by using fake social media profiles, emails and deep fake videos . Once they've managed to get the trust of their victims, the scammers gain access to bank details - or the vulnerable person sends the money themselves. New Zealand actor Martin took to Instagram to advise his followers to continue to disregard any requests for financial assistance or other forms of help, clarifying that he does not engage with his social media followers about things like this - and never would. In the video, the Netflix star stated: "I just wanted to warn people again of the fact that there are a lot of people out there who are pretending to be me and trying to get people to believe that I'm in need and that I need financial help or medical help. "They're essentially fleecing people out of a lot of money. I'm attaching an article from the New Zealand Herald about something that's been going on for the last couple of years." He continued: "There's a bunch of other victims who have since come forward, who have also fallen prey to similar scams." Martin went on: "I just can't tell people enough, I don't communicate with my followers. This is my only account, I promise you I don't have another account." Fans were quick to take to the comment section to voice their opinion on the situation. One fan gave her experience with scammers impersonating the Netflix actor, writing: "Thank you Martin for addressing this again. Daily i get someone pretending to be you and just block them. This is so ridiculous that they are doing this to tarnish your image..." As another said: "So sad, I've watched women of Facebook actually think they're talking to Martin. They (Scammers) target older single women who are vulnerable." While one fan expressed: "So many musicians and actors have people pretending to be them, it's really sickening. This is one dark aspect of social media. "There's so many of them! But most of us know to never pay attention to those things, but there's always the vulnerable ones." Ever since Martin got the role of Jack in Virgin River his fame and fanbase has skyrocketed - making him an easy celebrity to impersonate. This comes after a 47-year-old woman, who wishes to be known as Lea, fell victim to one of these scams, according to reports in the New York Post. Lea said she was lead to believe she was romantically involved with Martin after communicating for two years with who she thought was the Netflix star. She even went as far as relocating to New Zealand to be closer to him. However, doubt crept in when she was set to meet "Martin" at Auckland Airport on New Year's Eve, only to receive a message claiming he suffered a health scare in South Africa during filming. Yet, on the same day, Lea's friend showed her an article featuring Henderson fit and well at a bike event in Matakana, South Africa. In total, from the whole ordeal, she is reported to have lost more than $375,000 to the fake Martin.
