Doha, May 13 (QNA) - The Visual Arts Center of the Ministry of Culture is participating in the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) with an interactive educational and recreational activity for children. Held under the motto 'The Journey of Writing: From Engraving to Writing', the event is intended to explore the evolution of writing in the Arab world, from its early symbolic origins to its modern forms. This participation aligns with the theme, as the center has designed six interactive zones at the Children’s Oasis, demonstrating the stages of writing evolution throughout history by invoking a compelling style that fuses visual arts with state-of-the-art pedagogical technologies, Director of the Center Huda Al Yafei highlighted. She added that the center is committed to advancing its critical role in fostering children's creative sensibility and showcasing the arts as an interactive cultural tool within an environment that embraces erudition, in line with the Ministry’s vision of cementing a culture of reading and writing among rising generations. The first zone at DIBF showcases 'Engravings' where children are introduced to the origins of writing through pictographic symbols once employed by early humans on cave walls, Al Yafei said. She added that children will have a glimpse of the evolutionary progression of these symbols into the Phoenician alphabet, followed by the Musnad script, and ultimately into Arabic. The zone features two interactive workshops, 'Engraving' and 'Letters Through Time', where children will engage in clay carving and experiment with inscribing their names using ancient letter forms. The second zone, 'Scripts', spotlights the evolution of Arabic calligraphy after Islam, offering workshops in Naskh, Kufi, and Diwani using traditional reed pens. 'Design Your Cover' invites children to create book covers that reflect their artistic imagination. The third zone, 'Printing', traces the shift from handwriting to modern printing, featuring workshops such as 'Express and Print' for shirt printing, 'Young Author', and 'Letterforms in Art', Al Yafei explained. She went on to say that the fourth zone, dubbed 'Communication', keeps pace with digital developments, delivering workshops that blend writing with technology, including 'Braille Language' and 'My Hands Speak'. These tools, she said, will acquaint children with sign language, while 'Create Your Story with AI' offers them the opportunity to author their own narratives using artificial intelligence tools. The fifth zone, titled 'Create and Learn', will spotlight personal creativity through workshops such as 'A Story Told with Stickers', 'Craft Your Bookmark', and 'Color Your Tools', all designed to foster artistic expression and deepen children’s affinity for reading and writing. The interactive theater at DIBF will feature daily performances and theatrical storytelling, alongside recreational activities to ensure that children enjoy engaging events that blend knowledge with play.
